SDMB Monthly Photo Competition - rolling discussion thread

Congrats!

mmm

It’s a very nice photo, and the one I liked best from this month.

Same here. It could be used as an album cover for any kind of music.

Just a quick shout to @Fiendish_Astronaut’s second place finish.

I would be very proud of that image.

mmm

And… that was my 2nd pick!

Sorry, I can’t read those words without my brain going there.

Now back to your regularly scheduled photo discussion.

Thanks!

Aw, I just went to vote thinking I was still within the deadline, but missed it. My top three were the top three anyway, so it wouldn’t have made a difference! Congrats to the winners.

Me too, but I was under twelve pounds of cat.

Congratulations - again!

The next competition thread is up. I’m excited about this one - I think there’s scope for a lot of creative entries. :camera_flash:

You know the drill by now - please only post your actual entries in the competition thread, and keep the chatter here.

This month gets off to a strong start, courtesy of @penultima_thule!

Just giving this a plug, since at the moment we only have three entries… I’m guessing that the fact it’s a long entry window, it’s the end of summer and people might be away might mean that people haven’t got around to it yet… but at the moment, @penultima_thule, @Karen_Lingel and I are sharing a 33% chance of winning. Come and lengthen our odds.

I just posted mine and it’s up to 9 entries now. I have to say that I posted it in the spirit of the “contest” which is really just to have fun and show off our pictures – I already see several that I think are way better than mine, including yours which really looks like a work of art! Still, it’s a memento from one of the long-ago boat cruises that a friend and I would venture on, typically through Georgian Bay and the North Channel.

I’m working on mine. I’ve got a couple choices and don’t know which to use.

Yeah me too. Two photos I took on Thursday. Just posted one in the comp thread, here’s the other (click for the full image).

Google Photos

Still don’t know if I chose the right one.

ETA - if anyone’s interested, iphone SE, no image processing. As if I’d know how.

Speaking for myself, I tend to hold off on posting because I try to use new photos taken specifically for the comp. Never know when that opportunity is going to arise.

That’s a very good point.

Right. Also I looked through the archives and didn’t see a contender.

You know, I thought this was going to be a difficult theme to fine an entry for, which is partly why I was putting off submitting an entry, but when I looked through my own archives I actually found several contenders.

I very nearly used this one, also from the Rock of Cashel.

I thought these two also fit the theme, but maybe weren’t quite good enough to enter.

Humboldt Redwoods State Park, California.

This is an interesting topic. Nothing in archives and my first trips out yielded nothing better than the dull shadow of my mailbox. Then I started looking closer, a lot closer. Deep in leaf litter there is an abundance of sharp shadows produced by tiny objects. Very interesting, but composition was tough. So, I backed up a bit and became more aware of the shadows around me.
