SDMB Monthly Photo Competition - rolling discussion thread

Next person who makes a pun is going to be smacked with a piece of lumber, Jack!

mmm

In the daily xylem and phloem here on The Dope, that just what transpires, even if you do feel the occasional knot in the stomata. This creative photosynthesis is an example of wattle be achieved.

Fir sure I think. Eucalyptus me confused.

You should be ashamed. These puns arboring.

At least know I know how to get the post count up on my threads. :grinning:

I apologise for the this entirely pun-free post.

Now that we’ve gotten ourselves past the logjam of puns, I’ll post the ‘almosts’ from the same evening shoot that my entry came from. Also, I doubt it makes much difference, but I’m dismayed that for my entry, I uploaded the print optimized version of my photo and not the screen version. Imgur doesn’t seem to let me swap out the source. So I guess I’ll live.

Anyway, I seem to have been thinking trees even before the subject was defined. A happy accident.

This is my first time following the photo competition. Wow, what talents! And I love trees.

Welcome aboard! Feel free to snap a tree and join in.

Well, not literally.

I thought about using this one – after all, aren’t trees really just things for kitties to climb and sleep in? (I also considered it for the “animals” theme from months ago; you’ll probably see it again if you scroll up far enough in this thread)

I went out yesterday to try for some tree shots, but instead I got cute-bombed by this Eastern Phoebe. I hung out with him for about an hour. He wasn’t the least bit timid; at one point, he landed on my head, but I wasn’t quick enough to get the iPhone turned around to capture it.

Wow, so cool!

Great photo! I also nearly posted something along the same lines but you have to look a bit more carefully to see the creature in my shot…

Holy crap, is that a sloth?

Wow, it is! My favorite sin.

Yeah our driver spotted it near the side of a rural road in Panama.

I still look back in awe at that bit of observation; even after pointing it out to us it took me a few moments to locate it amongst quite a few trees.

Some wonderful images this month, such talent we have here.

It is sorta sad that this month’s subject would end up newsworthy around the globe:

I have my fingers crossed that it will sprout new shoots. Old trees, as long as they are healthy otherwise, can be remarkably resilient. Look at the banyan tree in Lahaina.

The Sycamore Gap is quite close to where I grew up, and where my parents still live. I’m sorry to say I never visited it. Oh well.
