SDMB Monthly Photo Competition - rolling discussion thread

Seriously, I cannot believe I won. There were some really, really great photos in there!

Well, you cracked the SDMB code: add cats to win!

Not cookies?

It wasn’t just the cat. The colors on the bricks, reflected in the flowers, was an aesthetically pleasing setting. And given the wall and the water, the cat had to have gone through the doorway to get to where it was. So there was an implied action, directly associated with the topic. A winning combination.

The Spooky contest is ready to go.

So…go!

mmm

I got my first ever vote, so I’m happy.

Thank you, Mr. Mustard!

OK, so now can we get the explanation of @Mean_Mr.Mustard 's door to nowhere in the middle of a pond?

Information about my contribution: this was taken in les Catacombes de Paris at the beginning of November, 2021. Yes, we were exploring the ossuary a couple days after Hallowe’en.

My wife hated it. My kids loved it.

Yes please!

@Mean_Mr.Mustard …?

Imgur has blocked access to their site from the UK, which you might want to think about when hosting your images - UK users won’t be able to see them if you link from Imgur.

Well, shit.

I’m happy to repost but want to be mindful of the guidelines.

At the moment, the only one I can see is from @EddyTeddyFreddy

If it was just me, I wouldn’t worry about it, but it’s UK wide.

Heck, if I had known that, I’d have posted this one!

I posted mine on imgur. Can someone recommend a different service?

Has the UK shut Imgur down, or is Imgur closing the UK out?

Imgur has closed the UK out.

Did they say why?

The UK recently enacted an online protection act which places significant burdens on web providers to verify their users in order to ensure that children are not seeing inappropriate content.

Rather than comply, many sites are simply refusing to serve the UK. I was not previously aware that imgur had joined them, but it makes sense.

We were on vacation at a VRBO lake house. We spotted a bright red object way on the other side of the lake, but we could not discern what it was. So, I kayaked across the lake to check it out and found that it was a red door, secured to a bracket of some sort and anchored to the lakebed.

Naturally, I had to have a photo, so I kayaked back to the house, grabbed my camera, and kayaked back across the lake (all the while fearful of having a lake-related catastrophe involving my camera).

I took a series of photos at different angles, and it became one of my personal favorites of all the photos I have taken. I did not drop my camera into the lake.

I thought I had a photo of the back of the door showing the bracket - I was going to post it here - but I cannot find that.

“Why is it there?” I can hear you asking. I dunno. Conversation piece, I suppose. An art installation.

Anyway, I like it. And I had no desire to Paint It Black.
