www.diplom.org has some info there.
Interesting on press. I like the idea of Black press, but I don’t know how you would implement it.
I’ve only got 4 emails so far…get them in folks, even you “alternates” because I’m going to get this going sooner than later. Shibbs, you too.
I’ve got us a Cat23 number. The game will be known as…
Cat23 Diplomacy Game 1092 -GRY
I’d love to. Just add me to the email list for the game and I’ll watch it avidly. Hopefully my participation won’t have to be too heavy, as it’s OT time at the office again so my free time is limited, and what with my WM game just entering the mid-game phase, Abe’s game finally getting started, and another game I’m wrapping up, the Dip is taking up enough of it as it is. But if you should fall in the heat of battle, Omni, I’ll take up the banner of GM if necessary.
That said, though, I’m willing to make my contribution to the Hobby. It looks like there may already be enough interest in this thread to field at least half of another newbie game. So, if all of you who missed this boat are still thinking of playing, I’ll commit to running a game once my schedule evens out a little in a week or two. Skeezix, garius, JayLa, Scuba_ben, anyone else interested in playing in another newcomers’ game, drop me an email (my address is below, and in my profile) and let me know.
Regarding Page 16, don’t worry about that yet. Once you get a handle on the basics of the game you’ll have a better shot at least at seeing what that complicated stuff is about. After experiencing a year or two of gameplay, reading analysis becomes a LOT easier.
Omni, that is an AWESOME game name. Smooth.
Omni, if I end up in you can just give me whatever country is leftover. And I’ve got to ditto on the game name. Classic 'Dope that’s likely to leave those Cat-23 guys scratching their heads.
So far I still only have 4 emails for this new game, so before anyone starts filling WL’s mailbox for the alternates, get one to me. Like I said, I want the roster finalized by Friday.
BTW, JC, I don’t see anything on Cat23 where I submit orders each turn, or where I specify details about players, or game name. Am I missing it, or is it more informal than I expected?
The only requirement is that if you have a game number you copy your results to cat23-1000 ATSIGN yahoogroups DOT com.
That way all the results will automatically be archived, the game analyzed for the historical records, and there will exist a record in case some other GM has to take over. I’m not saying you would abandon the game…but it happens. I’ve had to take over one in the past.
But that means you also have to SUBSCRIBE to the above group otherwise you won’t be able to send to it.
Welcome to the Cat, big boy. You’re one of us…now.
Prepare for 10 emails a day adjudicating games you never heard of.
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
We’ll give it a shot. Are the game names recorded anyplace besides in those email messages?
Game names are entirely arbitrary. They’re not recorded.
RESULTS, however, are recorded at David Watson’s site. I’ve got it bookmarked at work and I’ll post it in the morning. He’s got most of the results from games that went to completion on his site. It’s an enormous amount of work for David but he’s beginning to get it automated.
Well that’s not very nice, but it does beg the question. Do you adjudicate these games in some wheels off manner? Just for the hell of it?
Not to worry. I’ve only got 0.
I would certainly be interested in joining a game, but would happily give the noobs first shot. Anyone interested in running one?
And Omni and WL, once you figure out Realpolitic, GMing is extremely easy. You don’t really need to do anything until adjudication, and that takes about 15 minutes with an easy point and click method.
I would expect there might be a little more involved in running a game for newbies, as I’d want to make myself available to answer questions regarding rules or anything else. I know that in my first game JC was an invaluable aid in answering a litany of my questions that, looking back now, were mostly pretty dumb. That’s not to say that other newbies ask dumb questions. Just that I’d want to answer them if they did. Also the good questions. Like about convoys breaking supports. Or supporting a foreign convoy against yourself. Or whatever.
But, um, yeah.
Oh, and hey, if enough newbies don’t show up for a 2nd game, I’d be happy to run one for the pros, too, for Abe Babe’s benefit, since he’s GMing the current game. I know there were some people that had wanted to play in the last one. We could also run a mixed game. At any rate I’m volunteering to run the next game, of whatever nature the players decide on.
white lightning you should have one from me.
So what is the plan here then - should i be applying for the original game instead??
Oh, well I am at work and you’ve emailed me at home. As of this morning at around 7 AM PST I didn’t have any emails. But yes, send one to *Omni for newbie game #A. He’s got a list of 7 primaries for that game but I think he’s indicated that he’d take replacements if the primaries don’t contact him by tomorrow. Anyone still wanting to play after his game fills up with official actual players should email me.
At least, that’s my understanding. Omni can tell it better.
Oops. Sorry. Long day.
What part of this thread has been in Esperanto?

I’m still short on emails for this game. Email me if you want to play, that means everyone.

Be sure to include your country preference.
Right now so few of the intitial respondents have emailed me, I’m taking the first 7 emails I get with no preference to those parties mentioned in the OP. So far I have all of 4. If I don’t get 7 by the end of the day Friday, I’m putting Shibbs in as the 7th player.
