SDMB RPG First Adventure: Panic in Genoa!

I will attempt to flank and sneak attack the closest troll engaged with a party member.

I am going to try to throw my spear at the mage, if there are no allies in the way, of course. Else I will charge the nearest troll and go hand to hand.

Joseph moves cautiously into the room and takes stock of the situation. He narrows his eyes at the enemy mage, taking note of the nearby window. He hums a quiet tune, and the air around his head shimmers slightly with sonic reverberations.

I’m going to ready an action.

Trigger: enemy mage attempts to leave through a window.
Action: cast “solid note” interposed between the mage and the window.

This Mage is really pissing me off - i rage, and try to tackle him again.

Harald had better have some help, then, and I seem to be fresh out of bomb targets for now as my team-mates have obligingly charged in rather than wait for the artillery. While I’m still all feral I’ll go make use of it, though sadly those trolls are a fair bit bigger and uglier than I am even with the mutagen running. Ah well. Take the troll nearest our sneaky rogue type so he can get a chance to flank it.

If I can see the mage, I take a shot with my crossbow.
Do we recognize the trolls as Trolls or do we need a knowledge check?
I want to maneuver for a clear line of sight.

Now that you mention it, Joseph nails his Knowledge check with a perfect 20-- these are Apennine mountain trolls, and they regenerate wounds rather quickly unless those wounds are tormented by fire or acid. Joseph remembers them well from a skirmish at Cannae.

Initiative:
21: Joseph
19: Solsken
18: Harald
16: Troll
15: Mage
13: Aji
9: Taye
9: Troll
7: Giacomo
6: Zachary

Joseph squares his shoulders, sets his feet, and focuses intently on the mage.

Solsken takes aim at the mage in orange robes. The light pouring in through the east-facing window blinds the Druid of the North, however, and the spear flies straight out the window.

Harald feints twice with his axe, slowly retreating into a corner. The troll he’d slammed into a wall follows him, backs Harald into a corner, and lashes out with his firebrand. He connects solidly with Harald’s armored head, dealing a massive blow. 15 damage. That puts you in some dangerous territory.

The mage darts toward the window, the air sparkling around him, dives toward the window, and is stopped cold by Joseph’s invisible hand. He struggles against it, but is unable to overcome Joseph’s spell. Good one! I didn’t see that coming.

Aji lets out a fearsome cry and lunges toward the mage. The troll standing in front of the mage takes a wicked swipe with his burning club, but Aji ducks under and dives toward the mage’s legs. The mage dodges easily, however, and Aji fails in his grapple attempt.

Taye takes two quick steps to the left and lines up a shot with his crossbow, but the bolt fouls on the string and the crossbow will be unusable until you spend two rounds clearing it. A natural one. Tough luck…

The troll next to Aji swings a backhanded blow at the Malay brute, but Aji deftly stops the heavy blow with a quick gesture from both arms.

Giacomo steps out quickly and strikes with both daggers at the troll now cornering Harald. His second blow misses, but the first connects solidly with the troll’s hamstring. His blade cuts deep, and the troll bellows in pain.

Zachary steps up next to Giacomo and strikes. His teeth grip the wounded troll’s cut leg, and he worries it like a dog, dealing minor damage.

Joseph begins maneuvering around the edge of the combat, trying to get into range of the mage to bring him down with the whip.

“Fire or acid, boys!” he calls as he jumps over a broken chair. “See if you can get those pokers out of their hands!”

If I can’t get into range of the mage this round, I’ll maintain concentration on the solid note to keep the window obstructed. If I can, then I’ll use the whip and the note will last for three rounds.

I keep doing what I’m doing. If I can get the troll to drop his firebrand, I’ll try that.

If anyone attacks my troll with fire or acid, I will get out of the way.

snarling, Taye puts the crossbow away
“Cursed Hobbits, that is why it was such a ‘great deal’.”
“Friends stand clear of the beasts!”

I grow the claws (2 attacks per) while waiting for the group to duck and cover then cast Burning Hands at the trolls and the mage if he’s in the area, I’m still wearing my Brass Dragon tooth for a +6 on fire damage

“Comburet!”

I keep on the mage - if i can’t get a hold on him, I’ll at least try to stay within melee range in case he starts casting.

I pull my scimitar & rush to help my buddy Harald in his fight with his troll.

I am getting out of the way of Taye’s fire spell if I need to.

I’m not.

Whelp, here’s hoping the mage (our mage, that is) knows how to aim a cone :).

Harald yells : “SOLSKEN ! If you have a minute, mate, these bastards smart a little ! Hold on a second - oh good one, Jacobbo was it ?”.

I’ll delay my turn until after Solsken’s for the flank bonus, rage and full attack on my troll, hopefully downing him. If the troll goes down on the axe attack (yeah, right) I’ll use my move action to drop Ingrid (well, leave it in 'im, really) and pick up his fire sword.[COLOR=Black] “What kind of stone-for-brain brings the only thing that can kill them to a fight ?”, thinks I.

Oh, btw applecider, did you remember to factor my colossal 1/- damage resistance each time ? Here’s hoping you forgot, every little helps :stuck_out_tongue:

Zachary disengages in good order and tries to step back out of the troll’s reach, rapidly computing whether such a huge creature would effectively screen someone on the far side of it from the splash damage from a fire bomb. If not, then he’ll still take a shot if he has one at a troll that isn’t itself effectively screened by a party member, reasoning that a direct hit on the troll is worth enough to the war effort that a little friendly-fire splash damage is an acceptable complication.

I’m willing to stipulate that a full-grown troll represents cover for someone directly opposite a ranged attack, spell, or explosion.

Cool, then if I can get a clear shot at one facing of a troll he’s getting bombed. Just straightforward damage, none of the special effects.

If possible I will maneuver so a troll is between me and a firebomb/spell.and keep poking.

Also, evasion, for any fire spells
