Joseph takes a quick step forward and lashes out with his whip. His whip wraps around the mage’s arm, then releases harmlessly.

Solsken pulls a scimitar and rushes toward Solsken. He connects and scores a minor hit on the troll’s broad back.

Harald screams his rage and lashes out with a major blow. Ingrid lands with a meaty “THUNK” in the troll’s chest and Harald is only barely able to wrench it out again.

The troll’s wounds are closing fast. He isn’t really bleeding much as he strikes out again at Harald. His wounded leg quavers as it takes weight, though, and Harald sees the blow coming and dodges.

The mage swats ineffectually at the window for a moment before beating the Strength check by shoving his shoulder firmly through the invisible barrier. He climbs up on the windowsill, turns around, and drops out the window. You see his fingertips on the sill for a moment before they disappear.

Aji grunts, steps to the window, and looks out at the mage running away across the low roof of the stables. Aji vaults out the window, lands cleanly on the low roof, and follows, a couple of dozen feet behind his quarry.

Taye seizes his opportunity and steps forward to blast the troll not surrounded by the party with his spell. He steps forward and a jet of fire blasts from his fingertips. The troll raises his arm and makes his saving throw and shields his face from the worst of the blast, but is still significantly burned by the flames.

With Aji out the window, the troll turns toward Taye and makes a mighty thrust with his firebrand. Taye ducks under it but gets caught by the club on the backswing and takes 8 damage. Taye, Joseph, and Giacomo notice that its wounds are conspicuously not healing, and it is bleeding badly.

Giacomo takes the opportunity to attack while the troll is distracted by Harald and cuts with his daggers at the troll’s right arm. Both daggers get hung up on the troll’s incredibly tough skin and don’t deal any damage.

Zachary, his face still distorted by the elixir, digs into his robes and pulls out a fat glass globe. He winds up and throws, catching the troll full in the face with his bomb. The troll screams (a surprisingly high-pitched sound) and scratches at its eyes.

I can hit that big son of a she-wolf all day, he just won’t die ! That’s… that’s FANTASTIC ! I want to take him home ! Here, you stinking tub of guts, have ano… did the fat guy just jump out the *window *?!

Second verse, same as the first. How many HP and rage rounds do I have left ? Am I in dire “soon as you stop raging you’re dead” straits here ?

I need a range check on the mage’s exact distance from the window: I figure he had to spend some sort of action to push through the note and another to jump out of the window.

These trolls are much more formidable than those zombies.

I continue to flank and attack as much as I am able.

So the troll is my long-lost evil twin?

“Accursed monster! You squeal like a woman! In the name of Shango, father of flame, you will burn!”

I’d like to make one attack with the claws (two attacks per) then get the hell out of range! Isn’t 8 nearly half my hit points?

ac, you need to make it clear which troll is which-I am not sure if just one, or both, have now been hit with fire-based weapons.

Me: Continue to engage the troll closest to me in the hopes of drawing some aggro onto me, until someone can flame it’s ass. I bring up my shield to add to my defenses.

My Bird: She will follow that mage, at a discreet distance, as far as she can follow him.

I’m afraid you can’t really do that. Both claws means doing a Full Attack, which is a complex action that takes all round and only leaves you with a 5-foot step for movement. Since trolls are big and have reach, they can hit from 5 feet away without even having to move (though he could also take a 5-foot step towards you and make it all moot)
You could make a Simple Attack, which is one claw, and get the hell away with a move action - but unless you’ve got decent Acrobatics the troll will likely still have an Attack of Opportunity on you for trying to move within his threatened range (which you must to leave it, because again, reach).
In short, you’re… kind of screwed right now unless Johnny Bravo manages to trip it or either of you manages to Grease/Daze/Somehow Put A Whammy on that troll. Or just blow it up, I guess.

But speaking of claws, I just noticed : appleciders, did you remember my own claw attacks from raging and just didn’t fit them in the description ?

Excellent! My barbarian speed should close the distance quickly. If I get close enough to reach him with a double move, I’ll do a charge attack and try to grapple him to the ground.

ok, in that case I’ll just try to get out of the way. If successful, I’ll spend the next two rounds fixing the crossbow. Unless Hawkins can spare the time to get me a healing potion.

Hey folks, I’ve been busy and having computer issues to boot. Resolution of the fight coming soon.

The first troll, lured into the corner by Harald, has been heavily damaged but is still regenerating because it hasn’t been hit with fire. The second troll, still over by the window, hasn’t been too badly hurt but is not regenerating because of all the fire damage.

Harald has used 7 of eight rounds of rage and two of four one-round Enlarges.

The mage had been standing at the window, less than five feet away. He used a Strength check to push through, a standard action, and a move action to jump through.

Great, then that means he should still be in casting range on the following turn, since I have initiative.

Joseph moves to the window, peers out, and once again… holds his action, waiting for the mage to begin his move and then interposing another solid note directly in front of him (I believe that is my last level-one spell slot for the day).

If I have a shot at either troll, I’ll bomb it - the unburned one for preference. Otherwise I’ll see if I can help Joseph stop this mage with a stink bomb. Bomber’s Eye gives me a better range mod.

I’m going to resolve all Joseph-Aji-Orange Mage stuff all at once, since turns are slightly gamey and they’re away from the main group. Plus, you guys deserve a small bonus for frustrating my attempts to have the mage get away. Good tactical thinking, folks.

Joseph steps to the window and watches as the mage runs away from the enraged Malay wrestler. The orange-robed caster seems to be deliberately letting Aji gain ground, running but not at full tilt. The reason becomes apparent-- as Aji gets close, reaches out and lunges in a full flying tackle, the mage’s nose lengthens, his whole body shrinks as thousands of long sharp quills pierce the dyed linen, and he transforms entirely into a porcupine! Aji starts to reach back, leary of the quills, but he’s already in mid-air and can’t stop his rush. Suddenly, the porcupine slams into a solid wall of air and flips over! Aji lands nearly on top of the thorny rodent, and deftly pins the mage’s front legs and head with one meaty hand and the back legs and tail with his other hand and one knee. Aji’s opponent is neatly pinned to the roof of the Duke’s stables with his (literal) soft underbelly exposed.

Damn it, guys, I’m trying to have a recurring villain here.

Solsken swipes again with his curved sword, leaving a nice curved cut in the troll’s back. It’s staggering now, suffering from too many wounds for its regeneration to keep up.

Harald bellows, but everyone can hear that he’s running on fumes at this point. He has enough left in him for a brutal swing at the troll’s neck with Ingrid, who sticks there, buried up to the hilt. Harald drops her and digs in with his claw like hands, penetrating deep into the troll’s vitals. The beast staggers, sways, and crashes to the floor, out of the fight. His wounds continue to knit themselves together, though. He’s down but not out, below 0 hit points but still regenerating. You’ll need fire damage to put him out for good. Harald’s ire spent, he’s visibly winded and wounded, still mobile but not in good shape to continue. You’re still above 0 hit points. I’ll get an exact calculation soon. You’re out of rage for the day and now fatigued.

Taye makes a raking swipe with his own claws, scoring the troll lightly, then backs away, ducking the troll’s retaliatory swipe by a hairsbreadth.

The remaining troll, still by the window, steps toward Joseph and stabs with his torch like a spear. Joseph’s chain shirt catches the worst of the blow, but it still deals 7 damage.

Giacomo moves like lightning over to the troll, striking with both knives. He doesn’t pierce the troll’s bark-like skin, however.

Zachary, taking careful aim, launches another bomb at the downed troll. His Greek fire settles into the troll’s broad back and pools in wounds and cuts, burning viciously. The troll screams even through its unconsciousness, and the fire blocks all of the troll’s regeneration ability. It lapses slowly and noisily into death.

One troll down, one spellcaster captured, and one wounded and burned troll still standing.

Whoo! Plot derailment!

Given my tattoos and piercings, I’m clearly not concerned about getting some needles in my face. I’ll do my best to squash the porcupine, dealing unarmed damage + power attack with my grapple check.

Woo! Utility caster for the win!

Joseph is standing at the window, grinning and twirling his mustache as he watches Aji tackle the beleaguered spellcaster.

“Hah!” he says. “I love it when a plan comes toge- Ahhh! Me cago en vosotros!!

He stumbles and turns to see the troll standing over him, then looks out at the overall carnage in the room, and finally meets Giacomo’s eyes where the rogue stands flanking the troll (presumably I didn’t give the flanking bonus initially since my back was turned).

“…oh. OK.”

He grabs a chair from near the window, holding it out in front of him like a lion tamer, then cracks the whip in front of the troll’s eyes.

“Hah! Back, you creature! Hah!”

Using dazzling display on the troll.

pant pant you guys… you guys should be fine now. I’ll just… I’ll just catch my breath here and… have a nap.

I will dismiss the Enlarge Person spell, and stay in total defence for what’s left of the fight. Once the second troll falls, I’ll let myself gently fall over and bleed :).

Actually, scratch that : I will dismiss the Enlarge Person spell first, then move in on the last troll, fighting defensively, if possible with the leftover firebrand. Hey, nat 20s happen, I might could hit him :). Once the second troll falls, I’ll let myself gently fall over and bleed.

No, because the troll has reach, but Giacomo rolled 2 and 4, so it mattered very little.
