If I ammo doesn’t go up any more ($2.80/round right now), is anyone interested in shooting out to 500 meters?
That sounds fine to me, and I’d be willing to go out to 15 yards/meters. I don’t own any longarms, so this is the only category I’ll likely be participating in.
Señor Glockenheimer* and I are down at whatever distance. Two-handed or one-handed? If it matters we shot .45s and .22s one-handed in ROTC intramurals.
[sub]* Glock 19, 9mm[/sub]
I’d love to but the public ranges I know only go out to 100 yds.
A couple of questions, if you don’t mind.
Can I shoot my 1855 Harpers Ferry in the Vintage rifle class?
Bobo, what are you shooting that goes $2.80 a round? Black Hills Gold for .300 Win Mag is less than $2.50 a round from Midway.
Does somebody need explosives? I have serval pounds in the basement.
I can do centrefire handguns in either 10 or 15 yards. If you have more than one handgun can you shoot with them and submit the best one?
Federal Premium Match, .300 Win Mag. My regular source (cheaperthandirt.com) has it for $46.74/box, but I was at an (apparently) overpriced little outfit recently and priced it there. I should know better, but I try to buy local non-chain when I can. An additional 50 cents a round plus tax vs. shipping costs and having to wait a few days. Not as difficult a choice as it used to be, I’m afraid.
Amp, this isn’t my show this time, but last time I submitted two pistol targets. I think there was a side contest going between us Makarov owners and I can see how someone might want to have revolver and semi-auto separate (if we get enough shooters), or military and non-military, or something like that. The only reason I’m better with my 1911 than with my S&W 586 is that I practice way more with the 1911.
I certainly wouldn’t expect someone to shoot two different pistols and submit the worse score. If you’re only going to send in one, of course you do the best. But if no one else minds why not send in both?
This is the Airman’s show, tho.
As far as positioning, I assume no benching (unless someone else does 200+).
Rifle - Offhand? Prone? Kneeling? Oddly, prone is my least favorite position and I usually shoot better offhand, but I’m a little odd.
Handgun - As long as you’re standing without a rest, I personally don’t care how you hold it.
This is the Airman’s show, tho.
Handguns-no rest, one-handed or two-handed. I personally shoot one-handed, I find it’s better for me. Whatever you want to do, but it has to be your skill, no support.
As far as rifles go, I’m not as well-versed as those of you that own them, so you can negotiate the rules amongst yourselves.
One other thing- whatever you do decide to shoot, post it here ahead of time. That way we’ll know what we’re up against. .22 will have to be its own category, but any bore bigger than, say, .380ACP, can compete against any other. Handguns can be service-sized, compact, or subcompact. If you think that your strongest handgun is a PPK and you want to match it with a 1911 or someone’s Desert Eagle, have at it.
I’ll start- I’m using my Sig Sauer P239, chambered for 357SIG with a Hogue Monogrip. My Glock and my Ruger are going to sit this one out.
Rimfire Rifle - Winchester 9422
Centrefire Rifle - Remington 700VLS, .308
Vintage Rifle - 1903 Springfield, .30-06
Rimfire Handgun - Ruger Standard or Colt Frontier Scout (the Ruger isn’t mine, so it depends). If this drags out past the tax rebate check showing up, it’ll be a shiny new Ruger MkIII.
Centrefire Handgun Colt 1991A1, .45 ACP
Well, I’m going out the the range tomorrow morning. Instead of the M1, I’m going to try out my new Mosin M44 for this. Iron sights, offhand, 50 yards, 10 rounds, bayonet fixed, A9 target.
Where do I send the remains?
OK, out in the desert today I hit a full-chest/head man target at 15 yards. Six rounds, Glock 19, 9mm luger, standard sights. I used the fancy gooey target to emphasize my scattering. No head shots.
Will post pics within the evening.
A Shootnc target and my Hibachi. The blip in the 9 ring is a patch that burst when I folded the thing to get it back into my Jeep. If you’re missing one, it’s the top of the “8” on the top of the 8 ring. (6th shot, btw)
bump?
Bueller . . . Frye . . .
I’m going to try and get to the range next Sunday, time permitting. Still haven’t decided whether to take my Lee-Enfield or my Swedish Mauser, though…
