Oh, and I forgot to try to get a mount & blade warband game going. I get so swamped with new games that I manage to forget them entirely. People tell me the multiplayer running around shooting arrows in people’s faces and crushing their ribcages with lances is a good time.

There are some other games we could get going occasionally that we played before it there was interest, like defcon, flatout UC, company of heroes, etc.

Tell me what you want to do and if people are into it I’ll make it happen.

Correction, Call of Juarez doesn’t have coop even though the whole game looks like it’s specifically designed around coop.

So the game is designed to be done by having two players cooperating, yet does not feature coop. Lame. Rainbow 6 has good coop at least from what I hear. Probably still worth getting the pack at $3/game though.

I started playing mount and blade which is a pretty fun game in multiplayer. If you bought it over Christmas but haven’t installed it yet, play around with it a bit and we’ll get some multiplayer going.

A new Mount & Blade set in the 17th Century is due out in a few months.

Mount & Blade is kind of awesome, we should definitely get a game of that going sometime.

Call of Juarez, while dissapointing that it doesn’t have a coop mode, does have some interesting multiplayer modes. We played today a bit.

One thing though - if you own a game and you want to try to play with us sometime, make sure you install the game and at least run it once. The game page on steam will say “10 of your friends own this game”, but when you click on that list, it only lists people that have actually had some playing time in that game. So if you’ve never ran the game, I can’t see that you have it and invite you to our games. So at least launch your games once even if you don’t plan on playing them quite yet so you can get invited to our games.

I joined the group (JohnT15), but am just getting started on Steam. I don’t do much multi-player, not even sure my computer can run TF2, and right now have just downloaded Freedom Force and Medieval 2: Total War (it was a mere $2.50, so even if it doesn’t run, not like I paid out the nose for it. And I’ll have it for when I upgrade my computer.)

I use Can You Run It? whenever I have questions about my system.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I posted this to the digital deals thread but figured I’d post it here since I’ll be looking to try this out with other SDMBers.

Dogfighter is on steam for $2.50. Never got around to playing it much but it feels like a fun little dogfighter arena game. I had planned to host SDMB games but it was on sale at a time when we got a few other games cheap too and mostly played those instead. There’s a demo if you want to try it.

It looks like they’ve updated the game quite a bit since then and improved, so let’s give it a try sometime.

Mid-week sales run through friday at 10am PST I think.

I bought Rome Total War Gold edition for 2.50 a few days ago.
I haven’t slept since.

Set up your dogfighter game… set your options and controls and be ready to go so we can all play together sometime over the weekend - probably sunday afternoon. I’d recommend a gamepad/joystick if you have one, but it’s casual enough to use kb/m and get by.

Monday Night Combat is having a free weekend on steam as well as being only $10. It’s worth trying, it’s a pretty fun game. If enough people install it we can try a game of that too.

I finally joined…I’m pittpanther on Steam

Gonna try dogfighter in about an hour. If you’re interested have it ready to go - if you aren’t on my friends list already add me, name is SenorBeef there too. If it’s popular we can try having a weekly game or something.

Also have ventrilo installed. It’s free and it’s what we use for any game that doesn’t have good built in voice chat.

Lead and Gold is having a free weekend on steam (meaning you can play the full game till Sunday afternoon) and it’s on sale for $2.50 too. I like this game a lot - it’s a casualish, class-based wild west team shooter that has some cool mechanics and game modes and a good aesthetic. It never took off too well because the game was in various states of broken in the early days, but it runs pretty smoothly now. Highly recommend it at $2.50 and I’ll be hosting some SDMBer games over the weekend if you want to try it with us. Get the game installed and ventrilo too.

Ok, 2 things. I’ll be hosting a lead and gold game tomorrow at around 5 eastern, before our TF2 game. If you’re new to the game I can explain all of the mechanics and stuff although it’s a simple enough game. We can probably get enough people to make our own private SDMB match. You’ll want to have ventrilo installed since the game doesn’t have built in voice chat.

The other thing is - there’s a great sale going on at direct2drive right now. There’s 20% off everything with the code MARCHMADNESS but this is in addition to normal sales. They have racing [URL=“Direct2Drive”]on discount through this weekend.

A bunch of us still get together and play dirt 2 from time to time, which is by far my favorite racing game ever - it’s $5 plus the discount = $4. Grab it for that price, even if you don’t normally like racing games, cause it’s awesome. At least 4 of us will be getting Need for speed: Hot pursuit for $12, so grab that too and we can play together.

We’ve got about 8 people in for the need for speed deal so we should be able to have some good games. Ran into a problem - the sale is north america only, and a european friend from our group wants the game at this price. So we were going to gift it to him and get the money back via paypal. But… d2d has a really stupid design thing where as soon as you add a game to your cart to gift it, it says “you already own this game so it was removed from your cart” - so you can only gift games you don’t own. Really stupid design.

Anyway, I need someone, if you’re planning to get the game, to first gift to him, and then buy it for yourself. You’ll get the money reimbursed of course. Please contact me on steam if you’re willing to do this.

I think we have 10-12 grabbing Hot Pursuit. I’m scheduling a multiplayer game tomorrow at 5pm eastern +/- depending on when everyone is around. Get your game installed and configured and make sure you have ventrilo installed. If you grabbed the game and didn’t tell me, make sure you do so I know to invite you (steam shortcuts won’t actually show up on the "friends who play __) list)

If you’re having problems with D2D you can grab it on the EA Store for 3 more bucks, $15.

Since I’ll probably be playing with y’all in the near future, does anyone have advice for a good microphone? I don’t know if I want a headset, but any recommendations would be appreciated.

I know you aren’t sure if you want a headset, but these are really really REALLY nice USB headphones with attached microphone for a good price: http://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-Audio-655-USB-Multimedia/dp/B001SEQN3K/ref=pd_cp_e_2

There are lots of good options for headsets. Even the cheapo $15 ones from walmart (at least the logitech ones I’ve bought) work well. Or you can buy high end ones that work well as good headphones. Or you can just get a desk mic or a clip on mic and attach them to regular headphones. What are you looking for?

Anyway - there’s an action-rpg called darkspore doing an open beta test on steam this week. Which means anyone can play it for free. It has 4 player coop and looks like it might be fun - so if you’re interested in playing grab it and tell me.
