SDMB Syndrome: thread blend

A few days off have lent perspective, of sorts. FWIW, I tend to read a lot of posts and then choose which ones to respond to. So the various boards, topics and posts (and posters) blend together as a whole tapestry.

(Okay, too, too precious and twee metaphor. It’s better than the alternative that featured digestion.)

But sometimes I’ve carried over reactions or impressions from totally different topics–and boards. The protocols and intent are different. The topics and issues have been different, but it just struck me how easily discete bits can get jumbled into patterns that may not be there.

Just a random reflective moment. Does anyone else have problems taking separate posts on their own merit and not carrying them over?

Veb

I, too have been having that problem, even though I’m fairly new to this place. I have to try and remember that each one is separate, even though sometimes someone else makes a comment about one thread in another.

I’ve noticed the ‘thread blend’ (very poetic!) but, with the board shut down and visiting other places, which I had never done before. Maybe it is the thread blending, or the exchanges here, but everyone takes on a ‘personality’ that I didn’t get in the other places. The talk was okay, but not nearly as rich as it is here. Can you tell that I’m still ‘homeboard sick’?? I didn’t even know that existed!

Sheesh, “poetic” and I bobbled “discrete”.

Thanks for the responses to my muddled topic.
It just struck me that friends IRL have political etc. opinions that don’t gork me off nearly as much as random postings here. It just seems so much easier to categorize folks here.

The discussions here are so much more fun, interesting and topical than the ones cropping up IRL. So is that a higher standard, or cyber-distance or just my sloppy approach to SDMB?

Welcome back, Purplebear! Hope you had a good trip.

Now for the OP: Yes, there is a blending, and I think it’s great, and have contributed from time to time.
This is the first MB I’ve ever dealt with, and from all I’ve experienced, I got the best right off the bat.
I enjoy it immensely, and I feel closer with each post to my SDMB ‘family’.

Here’s to many more!

Changing my Sigline again 'cause Vebs’tummy is all better now!

Thank you VB, glad to be back. And, yes, I changed it first thing. I, too, have only this MB to compare, and I think that this is a great forum for all sorts of opinions. I look forward to many happy postings!!!
I love you guys!!!and gals!!!

THAT is an interesting topic all by itself, REAL LIFE conversations and what they lack!

Maybe when we’re in here (would that be ‘substitute real life’??) we’re making more of an effort to be succinct, humorous, and interesting. When we’re face to face, we take for granted what can be SEEN, so there is more NOT said. It be pretty tough to do that here! Though the smileys DO come close! You can’t just kick back and BE with someone, you have to contribute to what is being said to be involved.

But, I second your thought on being a bit nostalgic for having the board down for so long and not knowing if it would come back at all.

Oh wow, my first post to apologize for a goof!! Please read that as
‘It would be pretty tough to do that in here’. A goof like that MUST mean it is much too late too post again!! Night everybody, it’s sure is nice to come back in here!
