Sorry about last night, they released a patch about 15 minutes before the game started and I wasn’t around to update the server. For some stupid reason it doesn’t just auto-update when a new patch comes out, so someone has to manually run the updater all the time.
I’ve been on a weird sleeping schedule lately so I haven’t been up during most of our games. I’ll give some more people access to the server control panel so they can update the server when that happens.

I scheduled a game tonight out of habit but with Portal 2 out I’m guessing everyone will be busy. I guess I’ll ask around gametime who’s interested, but we’ll probably be inactive until Friday.
Btw, if I’m not around and a TF2 update is released right before one of our games, ask Electronic Chaos or fluiddruid to update the server. They can also handle server crashes if they happen.
They added a replay/movie mode system to the game now, which is pretty cool. If you’re good at video editing stuff start recording our games and make some videos.
It doesn’t record entire matches like I suspected it did at first, but you record one life at a time. If you hit F6 while alive, you’ll record that life. Even cooler, if you hit F6 after you die but before you spawn again, you’ll record your last life retroactively. Which is great because you don’t have to be recording all the time and hope something happens - you can wait until something awesome happens and then retroactively save that replay.
A little dissapointed you can’t record entire matches - I was thinking I could make highlight clips watching the entire match over again in free camera mode, but as it is, the clips will start and stop at your life - so if you’re watching something happen on the other end of the map in replay mode, it may get randomly cut short because you died.
Still, very cool stuff. I just happened to get an awesome clip (different angle) during testing. Some random pub joined me and that happened.
If you get a cool clip you can upload it right to youtube and post it on this thread.
You could automatically record every match enabling SourceTV and then tv_autorecord, but I don’t know what kind of storage you’ve got and those files are like 10 mb/round usually.
Use tv_maxclients 0 to keep it from actually broadcasting and destroying the CPU.
I’ve been working on the server somewhat to fix the stuff that broke. I’ve got the replay system working, got the team/alltalk mod working again (instructions here), the old voting system is working again. The stats page on the web server was broken and it’s now fixed. Right now, it’s only good through March 17, when EC’s laptop blew up, but we have logs since then, so we can do a big batch process to get the logs updated to the current time. Working on getting the live update thing going again too.
I’ll probably miss tonight, so organize yourselves.

So, I finally got a decent video of me running around as a beaconed spy here. Another video not on the SDMB server but featuring some of the regulars here. (Pyp was the scout and Nozzle was the sniper. I was the pyro.)
Good spy vid. I wish there was a way to enable elements of the hud, like the top right corner where it was listing who killed who, or if it would show the names of people playing. It’d be cool to see who was who in the spy video.
I was also pretty dissapointed to find out that you can’t string together takes from multiple videos in one replay, so you can’t make highlight clips - you can only view one life albeit from multiple angles if you want.
Yeah…those are pretty much the exact same things I’ve noticed and have wished were possible with the replay system. Still, though, even with those limitations, it’s still possible to get some good movies out of the system.
Made 2 new videos. In this one you can begin to see the annoyance in fighting spies that never die, but in this case it has a happy ending with heller getting jagged in the face.
This is an 8 kill run on harvest as a soldier. Not my best run ever or anything, but the best of what I did when we played tuesday, and I wanted to play around with the camera.
Yeah, stats are working again, including the live feed on the server saying what your actions accomplished. It’s a few seconds behind real time but that’s unavoidable with the current setup - it works mostly well. The stats webpage is fully functional.
If you guys do any replay videos make sure you link them here. I’ll create a youtube playlist or a web page or something that contains all our videos.
TF2 is now free to play permanently, so we’re going to have filthy estonians and such in our games. I’m going to be more liberal in the application of the banhammer in the anticipation that there will be more filthy, filthy undesirables around.
Bunch of new stuff in the update, a new payload map I’ll add to the rotation, some new weapons… the update broke sourcemod for the moment, so we won’t have our stats/voting/team talk/few other things until that’s fixed.
We haven’t filled the server to capacity in a while for a private game, so let’s give that a go tomorrow. If you’re one of the people who plays 1-3 times a month, make the Saturday game the one you show up to if you can make it. We can show some of the sdmb newbies who got the game just now how to play and donate some spare items and such.
As I mentioned in the other thread, I just started the game. I’m not much of a gamer, especially an online gamer (aside from an MMORPG) and never did the mic/voice thing. In fact, I don’t even own a mic. Is this a problem and should I skip or is it not necessary? I know in some games it’s pretty much a requirement.
It’s not a problem, but why not pick up a decent logitech headset for $15-20? The whole point of us playing together is social, so join in on the voice chat.
