All Medics all the time. Call it “General Hospital”.
(I suspect that would be incredibly frustrating.)

Highlander Mode is fine with me; I hate games where half the team plays spy and the other half play snipers, no matter how badly they get crushed. Likewise, disabled engineers on CTF is fine; alternatively, Highlander Mode ought to balance CTF pretty well too. No flag room is so strong that a single gun in it can throw the game entirely out of whack.
Well, since people seemed to like highlander mode (at least occasionally) I was thinking we could make Saturday night our weekly highlander game. Cool?
Works for me. (I won’t be around tonight, though, since I am going on a pub crawl for a bachelor party.)
ETA: Not my bachelor party.
This “highlander mode” you speak of seems enticing but I cannot for the life of me fathom what it’s about.
Check post #278.
It’s called highlander mode because “there can only be one” class per side.
Hop on now if you want to try it…
So, I tried importing a picture as a logo and when I tried to spray it, it wouldn’t let me. I heard the spraying sound sometimes but I didn’t see the image. It was a jpg. What could cause this?
Try resizing it so that the pixel length of the size are a power of 2. ie 128x128, 256x256, 512x512
I resized it to 512 x 256 and it still does the same thing. I hear the spraying sound but nothing.
Sprays have to be square, I think. You can possibly make the result a non-square image by using a transparent background, but I’m not sure. There are lots of guides around the interwebs.
I tried it with a 512 x 512 jpg. Didn’t work. It didn’t even show up in the window where you can preview the logo in the Options - Multiplayer tab.
In terms of future possible modes to have a tryout, i’d like to shill for Prophunt.
For those not familiar, it’s basically a game of hide and seek. One team are all Pyros. The other team are all, mechanically, Scouts, except that instead of the Scout model you’re a random prop or piece of scenery. So you might be lucky and be a bucket, not lucky and be a shed, or terribly unlucky and be a capture point. Hiding team goes off and tries to find a place to hide where they appear to be just a prop and not a player; seeking team tries to find them and kill them, usually via flamethrowering everything in sight.
The seeking team do have a disadvantage of losing health as they fire, so you can’t just go around attack everything. It’s pretty fun.
How long do people tend to play on private game nights? I can’t usually join until after 8pm pacific. Are there enough west coasters to keep the game going until late? When I check in on off times, the only people that are hanging around are usually trying to set up achievement scenarios rather than actually playing.
The weekend games will sometimes run that late, but keep in mind by then most people have been playing for 2-3 hours, so they won’t last much longer. But we’ve had games where 10+ of us lasted until the 4 or 5 hour mark.
Usually once the SDMB population starts declining I’ll unlock the servers and let filthy pubs in to keep the game viable.
A possible mode to try: Predator.
A heavy with permanent invisibility and low gravity fights against a whole team of other players.
Perhaps we could make it so that pyro and heavy are not available to the team that fights the Predator. Having pyros would very much reduce the effectiveness of permanent invisibility. Having heavies would make the Predator their equal in toughness and damage output.
There would need to be a way to keep the heavy from replenishing health. They could last forever if they could sneak away to heal up from the few hits at a time they are likely to receive.
True. Can we turn off medkits and have the team rely on medics?
How has the server performance been this month for everyone? I’m not sure if they changed anything after I wrote the tickets, but I haven’t really been noticing any lag. Maybe a little spurt here and there but nothing bad at all. I need to make a decision in the next few days to stay with the current server (cheaper, everyone has it on their list, already set up, etc) or move to a new one.
It seems to me like the performance has been fine, but I’ve seen other people say they were lagging when it seemed to me that everything was good. Could’ve been on their end I guess.
