I still lag sometimes. What’s the price difference already?
$15 vs $25 a month
When I’ve been joining in, I’ve had no problem. FiOS at their cheapest 15/5 MBPS cap, and even the 5 upload is enough for me to participate with no lag. The only time I’ve experienced it is on some other private servers, getting some frame drop, but not on the Dope’s.
I haven’t played in the last week, but I was still seeing server-side issues the last time I was, and I’m not sure how other people aren’t seeing it. Maybe I’m just more sensitive to it since I tend to be using either the bow or the spy, and both are highly sensitive to even tiny position jitters.
I see it too. It’s not bad, but it’s noticeable.
I’m an utter n00b (less than 30 hours of play), who plays at a poor-to-fair level, and who can’t voice chat*. I have little to recommend me (apparently), but you sound like a fun (forgiving!) bunch and I like the idea of playing with people I “know”.
I can’t commit to any sort of regular schedule, but do you mind if join you on occasion?
*I’m usually sitting next to a sleeping toddler, when I have time for gaming.
For any and all that care, I will be away from the game for a while. I’m moving and such and wont be able to play for a little over a month.
Don’t be such a Fluttershy, Stephen; Of course, you can play. Tuesdays and Saturdays at 8PM eastern are when you’ll find the most people on the server.
The only time we’re dicks to each other is when we’re taking the piss. Skill levels vary widly from Senorbeef’s level (be nice and let him win sometimes) to Heller the Backstabber.
This is very important. If you don’t allow Beef to win every once and a while he gets sad and starts crying over the mic, which is really embarrassing for all of us.
Oh, and we also tell him you want to have the most deaths in a round because it means “you have the most heart.”

The servers are generally very good in lag terms for me. Takes a long while to actually connect, but once i’m in the game, usually zero issues.

Well, then, between us, he must have had a pretty good evening, because he killed me quite a bit more than I killed him.
Is medieval mode actually fun for anyone who doesn’t have any of the non-standard weapons? Granted, I suck at the game and would die a lot regardless, but specialized weapons seem to make a lot more difference in that mode. And do snipers really not have any ranged weapons unless they’ve gotten a bow drop at some point?
Snipers may still have jarate which, while not a weapon, can result in increased damage. Otherwise, yeah, no jarate and no bow means a very unhappy sniper.
I hate medieval mode and I’ve got most non-standard melee weapons I could want.
Whanging on my fellow teammates is always a reward unto itself.
I enjoy it for a round or two as a goof-off but don’t take it seriously and wouldn’t want to play it more than that at a sitting.
I’m assuming he/him is Beef, because I didn’t have many kills. We were actually on the same team after a reshuffle, shortly after I started … not that that stopped me from whaling on all of my teammates.
I’m probably misunderstanding, but snipers start with their rifle, which is certainly ranged… In an all-melee game, I was surprised to see snipers using ranged weapons (bows) but figured they probably had Jarate or something in their third slot so that an exception was made.
I have very few non-standard weapons (one improvement for my attack and defense classes is about it), but medieval mode is fun enough. My main complaint is my own lack of skill/speed for melee – partially because I have no skill, and partially because I’m playing on my laptop’s trackpad, and don’t have a mouse. (And probably no where to put it, if I did – like I said, I’m a very casual gamer).
So the server should’ve been up for renewal today, but I never got an invoice. And there’s still no invoice listed on their site. I did at one point after some downtime ask for some comped time, and no one said they were giving it to me, but the server is still up and working. I don’t even have an invoice to pay if I wanted to. So I guess we’re on free time - so let’s see how long that lasts.
