There’s only two ranged weapons allowed in it - the sniper bow and the medic crossbow. Having them isn’t the giant advantage that it sounds like, as they’ve got their drawbacks and most people are a lot more effective sticking with melee. Having some of the additional melee weapons like the katana, rake or boxing gloves can get you a leg up, but melee combat is a lot more determined by who rolls up the random crit first than by anything you do or use.
Yeah, I’d say so. I have five or six scout weapons, but the bat is the one I use on degroot. It can be a lot of fun harassing snipers when you’re on defense, and at any rate it’s a good introduction to playing the scout. Also, the basic spy weapons are still competitive, and again medieval mode is a fun way to learn how to spy.
The medieval round was fun for a round, it would get pretty tedious after a while though.
Does any one have any idea what happened with the game with the control points where red won 9-0 for many many games in a row? Even with all the team shuffling blue lost all the time.
A large part of it must have been probabilities. Sometimes, very low probability streaks happen.
I also think that red getting a winning streak made whoever was on red more aggressive and cooperative and whoever was on blue less so, thus leading to self-fulfilling expectations.
I wasn’t round for the red sweep last night but I know sometimes I’m on a server during a scramble and the “core” of the team survives unchanged. So we lose and gain a couple random snipers and spies but the people that were actually taking and holding the points continue to dominate.
(Generalizing here… I know that some spies/snipers are well played and significant. I just don’t see them often on the pub servers)
So when I first played TF2, there was a map I played on that was a CTF map where the flag spawned in the middle of the map on a wooden platform. I thought it was an official map, but I’ve never seen it again and we’ve done all the stock maps I guess, so it must be a custom. Does anyone know which one I’m talking about? Plenty of green, some buildings… it looked a decent bit like sawmill I suppose.
Made a replay video of that epic kill where a pyro shot a flare at me across the bridge, and I wasn’t even looking at it and happened to be trying to airblast the scout off at the same time, and reflected the flare at like a 145 degree angle to kill the scout.
I mean, that was totally intentional. I’m awesome.
It happens so fast that it’s hard to even see what’s going on though. Is there any way to do slow motion from within the replay editor? Turning it up to 1080p helps to see what’s going on.
I found I could follow everything pretty easily on the second viewing if I just watched where the enemy pyro came in, and then tracked his flare from gun to scout. Nice kill, by the way.
I haven’t been able to make the last week of TF2 games and I’ve noticed they haven’t grown to their normal size and they fizzle out pretty quickly. Now I realize that I am the greatest thing that ever happened, and everyone wants to play with me, but I’m going to be out of town for a month and I’ll only be able to play occasionally, so you guys will have to organize and play without me. Just hop on at the normal time, no need for me to tap you on the face with the invite stick.
I have been fighting lately to get results on a new EA I found three months ago and kept for myself (got it free by the way by requesting an evaluation copy) but so far I have only got results from only one of the types of accounts - the standard accounts with Alpari. Still I would like to employ their Pro accounts and it simply refuses to open orders there returning the 136 " off quotes" error code…
The results with the standard account are really good but the spread there is much larger than with the Pro accounts for the currency pairs recommended (EUR/USD, USD/CHF, EUR/CHF).
Do you got any idea why the Pro account never lets the ea open trades and returns the 136 error (off quotes) - this problem does not exist with the standard account at all! The robot in question is ForexPros B.O.R.N Night Owl which you may google for easily - I got it from here exchange rate
Thanks a lot guys - looking forward for some explanations and possibly test results if you got any!

For whatever reason, our server provider hadn’t billed me for about 6 weeks. I thought maybe they were compensating us in free time for technical issues, but then I suddenly got the bill for 2 months. Since it’s still crappy frequently I’m definitely not going to pay and I told them to close out the account. I’ll start looking for a new provider soon.
I’m going to have to go back through my paypal history to figure out if I need more funds to get the new server, I’ll post updates on that later.
I’m starting a Team Fortress 2 circle in Google+ if anyone wants updates from me on it.
I was recruited to a UGC 6v6 team as one of their scouts. If you want some insight into semicompetitive Team Fortress 2, either +1 or comment on the post and I’ll add you to my TF2 circle.
Alright, so I’m looking into another provider to get our server up and running again. Maybe we can have our normal tuesday game if I can pick one quickly and get it set up.
Going back through my paypal log, when you count up server donations and list expenses, I have exactly $20 leftover, which I’ll use to get the server going for this month.
We won’t be getting the same great $15/mo deal like we did with the last server - most likely we’ll have to pay $1.25 a slot, so $25 for 20. I could go a bit smaller if we need to, 16 man or something, if we don’t think we’d use all the slots as much.
Anyway, I’ll need to start a new donation drive after this month if you want to keep the server going.
Alright, we’ve got a new server. For now the settings are pretty much vanilla - we’ll gradually add stuff back.
The address is 96.44.142.243:27017
You can go to your server browser, go to the favorites tab, press add, and then put in that ip/port number, and the server will be listed on your favorites.
The name is Straight Dope TF2
As always, if it’s locked, the password is cecil.
I’m going to try to get a game going later tonight, since it’s been a while for us.
I scheduled a game to start in about 3 hours, 8pm eastern, to give the new server a test run. The configuration will be pretty basic - working now on adding some basic stuff like the map rotation and replays.
Not a big game tonight, 8 people, but it was an off night on short notice, so I’m hoping the Friday game will be bigger. In any case the server seems to work fine, no problems. Gonna have to work on restoring things like replays and stats and plugins.
Anyway, go ahead and show up for the Friday and Saturday night games if you’re around.
