SDMB top 100 all-time fave pop/rock songs

This is hopeless…can we have a different list each day ?

Ramble On – Led Zeppelin
Lust for Life – Iggy Pop
Venus in Furs – Velvet Underground
Pretty Vacant – Sex Pistols
Teenage Kicks – The Undertones
Voodoo Chile – Hendrix
The Look of Love – Dusty Springfield
What’s Going On – Marvin Gaye
Glory Box – Portishead
…and for ol’ times sake: Thunder Road – Loose Windscreen (or ‘The Boss’, if you prefer)

Nice that some remember what Dubya’s mother did way back when.

Late for the party, as usual.

Well I’ll be hornswaggled. I thought I was the only one that liked this song. Great pick!

Damn, thats an eclectic list, I left off “Louie Louie” by the Kingsmen just because I didn’t know if it would qualify.

Keith

The playlist in my head at this moment includes:

Dead Kennedys-‘well paid scientist’(…stares at you from the bathroom mirror…)
Eno-‘Paw-Paw Negro Blow Torch’(my my my we’re treating each other just like strangers…)
Ween-‘Holdin’ you’ (…writhin and squealin, pukin’, lookin, for someone like you)
Johnny Cash-‘Drive on’(don’t mean nothin…)
Rolling Stones-‘Memo from Turner’(…tubes of plasticon)
Jason and the Scorchers-‘Both Sides of the Line’ (…but watch his feet fly as they come to try to take his old bones away…)
English Beat-‘Over and out’(pushes your dead body under the microscope, over and over it’s over it’s over and OUT)
ClashSomebody Got Murdered (…goodbye, for keeps, forever…)
Lucinda Williams-‘Concrete and Barbed Wire’(these walls are not real, how can they be real, they’re only made of concrete…)
Talking Heads-‘The Big Country’ (…and I see the parkway that passes throught them all…)

Dragon, let me make a suggestion… If you do compile these, just count the raw votes; don’t weigh them from 1 to 10 points cuz it’ll throw things off. I mean, if two people put “Ice Ice Baby” as their number one song, and 15 put “September Gurls” as number 10, according to your system, Vanilla Ice would be a full five points ahead of Big Star.

Besides that, I don’t think most of us are really placing them in any order, anyhow.

Just my 2 pence.

I’m cheating.

  1. Time, Pink Floyd

  2. Stairway to Heaven, Led Zepplin

  3. Whole Lotta Love, Led Zepplin

  4. La Grange, ZZ Top

  5. Got Me Under Pressure, ZZ Top

  6. Money For Nothin’, Dire Straits

  7. Going to California, Led Zepplin

  8. Changes, David Bowie

  9. Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen

  10. One of These Days, Pink Floyd

I really, really like PF and LZ. I think they are the two greatest bands ever. The Rolling Stones are pretty good too.

White Bird… It’s a Beautiful Day
The Weight… The Band
After Midnight… Eric Clapton
Ramble On… Led Zeppelin
Into The Mystic… Van Morrison
I Scare Myself… Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks
Suite Judy Blue Eyes… Crosby,Stills and Nash
Pride of Man… Quicksilver Messenger Service
Like a Rolling Stone… Bob Dylan
Cumberland Blues …Grateful Dead

Piece of My Heart --Janis Joplin
Under Pressure – Queen w/David Bowie
Dance Hall Days --Wang Chung
Money For Nothing-- Dire Straits
Sledgehammer --Peter Gabriel
Glory Days --Bruce Springsteen
Don’t Dream It’s Over-- Crowded House
The Needle and the Damage Done --Neil Young
The Flame – Cheap Trick
Tempted --Squeeze
Undone–Weezer
Molly/Sixteen Candles --Sponge

I think this is a good reason not to play games that involve points on the SDMB.

I like the suggestion to give all mentioned titles one point. However, as someone pointed out along the way, it does not seem to converge to a list as there are very few songs mentioned more than once. If that does not change, we can forget about compiling altogether. Oh well, it made people think about music and it is interesting to see other peoples preferences.
