Over in our SDMB Civ V game, some of us have expressed a desire to try a couple of matches of multi-player combat in one of the Total War Games, and I wanted to get the ball rolling.
As to which Total War Game we’ll play, it’ll probably come down to which version the majority of us has. Obviously the more recent the title, the easier it’ll be to setup a multi-player match.
Medieval II will probably be the popular choice, but it uses gamespy for multi-player and I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ll end up having issues there. If someone has played it recently online, please share your experiences.
Shogun II is the most recent title, and given it’s Steam integration, it’ll probably be the easiest to get into, however, being a newer title, I don’t know how many people will have it available.
Empire and Napoleon also feature Steam integration, IIRC, and the gun play might make for pretty interesting, certainly more varied engagements.
So anyone who wants to battle their fellow dopers, please post here and let us know what your preference would be, and which games in the series you own!
I’m game. I’ve got them all, although I don’t have Empire and Napoleon installed at the moment. Either those two or Shogun II might the least painful to get running in multiplayer.
Alright, let’s test the waters, as I’d like to get a match or two going before Rome II hits and the inevitable sales commence.
Let’s start with a game on Wednesday evening, the 14th.
Game: Empire Total War.
As many players as we can get. And then We’ll give either Shogun 2 or Medieval 2 a shot on either Thursday, Sunday or Monday, whatever will get most people on board.
Empire is a big game, so if you don’t have it installed, start sometime today
I’m Kinthalis on Steam so add me if you’re interested and PM me on Wednesday so I can send you an invite.
Let’s say 7:30 PM Eastern. We’ll probably do more than a single battle if enough people are up to it, so if you can’t make 7, there will hopefully be another later in the evening.
And remember, don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes!!!
Thanks, I just bought Medieval II… for five bucks! Always wanted to check that one out, and if I only play it twice I’ll get my money’s worth. And I bet the i7 can crush anything 2007 throws at it
Dunno if I can find time for the multiplayer battles, we’ll see.
