I have lost 2 lbs since my last weigh in, bringing me to a total of 10 lbs lost since New Year’s. Hurray!
182.8 @ 42.4 % fat; 105 cm @ waist
I had a nasty set-back this week. I saw myself naked in a full-length mirror.
Loose skin!
shudder
I wasn’t prepared for this so soon.
I’ve eased back on the weightloss exercise, and started on the muscle toning.
I still use the treadmill every morning, but I don’t push myself as hard, and I do floor exercises for about half an hour every evening. I should be ready for weight-training by Ground Hog’s Day.
I chart all my measurements, so I can see the general trend, and ignore the tenth of pounds and percents my scale reports.
I’m satisfied. I’m making most of my goals, losing proportionally. My first milestone is Ground Hog’s Day; I want to hit 40 % fat.
Any suggestion for avoiding loose skin?
Weighed myself today and I’m not 12st 12 so I’ve lost 2lb since last week which isn’t bad. I’m off kickstart tomorrow and onto the main weight watchers programme so I’ll have even more food to eat - yippee!
Yeah, don’t diet.
I have loose skin on my abdomen, my inner thighs, my hips, and my upper arms. I don’t have the luxury of being able to afford a full body lift, so I keep myself clothed. We are going on a cruise next month and I am mortified at the idea of wearing a bathing suit in public without something covering my upper thighs.
Pretty much what **Gingy **said. I weighed 360, got down to 180, and am in the 220 range right now so I look horrible naked. I’m only 26 so I hope I still have a little bit of youthful elasticity left but that’s only going to help so much and surgery’s the only thing that’ll really fix it. If I can hit my goal and stay there for a couple years, I’ll probably go ahead and take the plunge but until then I’m just going to have to deal with the consequences of being a lazy glutton.
Oh, so positive.
Yeah, I know it’s unavoidable, but I’m still going to lose slowly to try to mitigate it.
I am also using dry loofahs (no, not falafel), vitamin C, calcium, lysine, and any body lotion that tells me sweet lies about firming skin. I’ll probably start drinking plain gelatin soon.
Ginger, I assume you are a woman? I have heard that not only Muslims, but women with a fear of skin cancer are adopting these.
I am a woman, yes. And I’m not being negative, I’m being truthful. If you have a lot to lose, you are going to have extra skin no matter how much muscle you build.
I didn’t lose quickly by any means, even though I’m so close to my goal. This began in March 2003, and these last ten pounds or so have been the most difficult. There was a 70 lb loss, then a gain of 50 during pregnancy, then the loss of 70. After the first loss, I didn’t have nearly the extra belly that I do now (thanks to that pregnancy).
If you have a lot to lose, there is no way to avoid having loose skin.
235, down 1½ from last week and 8½ from the start of the year. It was raining most of last week, and when it wasn’t raining I was running errands in town and couldn’t go walking at lunchtime, and I was in the panto every evening so it wasn’t until yesterday I managed to go for a gentle stroll. Under the circumstances I’m not too ungrateful for a 1½ pound loss.
Lifestyle change coming up - this is my last week in the office before going on “garden leave” and I’ll have to see how well I cope with it. Hopefully I’ll have time to take the dog out for a nice long walk every day and be able to steer clear of idly snacking!
Woohoo! Have a winter virus, that always helps jump start the weight loss.
(OK, I’m trying to find the good inside the bad…)
Hey, I’m back! My husband, son and I got back from India on Saturday. I was delighted to find out that somehow I lost five more pounds while we were gone (okay, to be honest, I had some stomach issues with all the oily food in the North - it was tasty but painful). So I’m now back to my pre-pregnancy weight at last!
Now there are just those pesky 30 pounds I wanted to lose in the first place…
I’m going to be weighing in tomorrow morning for the first time in a while, since before the break. I know I’m going to be up. I just really need to not let myself be discouraged by that, and keep working on good habits rather than just throwing in the towel (which is what I really want to do).
I’m down to a size 16 jeans! Next goal: size 14.
Well, 162 pounds this morning, so that’s 2 pounds in the last week. Looks like needing to report in is motivating me. I hate to fail, especially in ‘public’.
applause to the room in general
I lost 3.8 pounds on my first week of Weight Watchers, and am well on my way to a similar loss this week. I don’t know why it’s coming easily to me again–I’ve tried to start up again tons of times with next to no results, but this time it’s working just fine. My goal is to lose 30 pounds by the time I go on vacation on April 12th. 26 pounds in 13 weeks will be tough, but hopefully doable. What I really need is the motivation to work out again. I’m always so exhausted when I get home.
Weighed in yesterday: down two pounds for the week. That was being sick and having no appetite for anything. Luckily for this week’s prospects, I’m well enough to go back to shinkendo. Hello, four points in one evening! Last night’s class was totally freaked out, also… those that had them were practicing with live blades. Goho battoho is a completely different animal when one is waiting for sempai to cut off his thumb…
I finally lost one of those pesky holiday pounds. I’ve been doing really well on the exercise and trying to keep the eating in check. I got Dance Dance Revolution for Christmas so I’ve been mixing that in with my treadmill time. I started out at “Beginner” and have worked my way up so I’m really good at “Basic,” so now I’m trying to ease my way into “Difficult.” I don’t know about other versions but mine has a workout mode that I use. I just say how many calories I want to burn and dance until I’ve burned them. Of course, you burn them much more quickly on “Difficult” than on the easier levels, which is why I want to be at that level. It’s hard work.
The really good news is that my husband wants to lose weight this year. He’s now eating (gasp) vegetables with me and wants to join the fitness center next month. I’m excited for that. I’d like to do some weight lifting again.
Unbelievable! I was up 0.2 pounds since late December. I say that qualifies as me meeting my goal of maintaining over the break. I’m extremely pleased, although I think it was dumb luck and not any good habits I was maintaining. Still, I don’t have to feel depressed and unmotivated about going back over old ground - these are still all new pounds to lose!
(For the heck of it, I’m just going to journal my recent experience here.)
Good news is, I didn’t gain any weight over the holidays. Bad news is, I didn’t lose any either. I’ve stayed quite solidly at 240 since the start of December, breaking my 5 pounds per month decline from August.
The gym trainer I was working with quit, so instead of finding another I think I’m going to quit the program entirely and throw all my effort into cardio. When I started I was trying for 30 minutes at the gym a day, 5 days a week, with 3 sessions of weight lifting and 2 cardio. After a couple months I changed it to 3 days of cardio and 2 of weight lifting. Lately, though, I’ve found it easier and easier to make up reasons to skip the gym and only going 2 or 3 days a week. There’s a host of them, but I think the only real one is that I find it a pain to have to change in and out of gym clothes every day just for a scant 30 minutes.
So I’m compromising. Instead of 5 days a week, my new plan is to go to the gym 3 days a week, but for 60 minutes per session. I think I’ve got enough training in that I can go that long with a suitable break at the 30 minute mark. I can still use the weight machines once a week to keep up my upper arm strength. My main purpose in hiring a trainer was to have someone help me get used to the gym and not be intimidated by it, and I certainly am not any more.
I’m holding steady on the weight, but the %fat is trending down. My waist measurement is meeting my (completely unrealistic) goal-line; I know it’s just due to improved posture, but it gives me hope and encouragement.
Does anyone know if there is any scientific basis to the belief that weight put on recently comes off much more easily? It’s like those pounds need 3 or 4 weeks to really settle in and make themselves at home.
I gained over ten pounds over the holidays, so congratulations on a job well done.
I go to the gym in the mornings before work, so I save on a change of clothes. I even manage to drive there safely without coffee.
Do some exercise on your days off from the gym. I do a little light work-out for about an hour or so in front of the t.v. most nights.
