SDMB Weight Loss Club, September

I’m glad I read this thread this morning. I was feeling bad about how I ate yesterday - 43.5 WW points (my daily allowance is 25). I went out with friends to dinner at Outback Steakhouse, and then we went drinking.

But I did do a lot of things right. I had a very light breakfast and lunch (and got in 3 servings of fruits and vegetables between them). Along with my steak, I got a completely bare sweet potato and steamed veggies with nothing added. And I can’t beat myself up for going out drinking with my friends, because if I tell myself I can’t, there is absolutely no way I can stick to the program.

I do still have two Rosh Hashanah dinners coming up in the next week, though. We’ll see how that goes.

I think that this is really important. Cutting loose every now and then is a great way of sticking with it. Too many people try to comply 100%, and when they fall off the wagon, they consider themselves failures and give up.

Last night I ate way too much Indian food.

Right now I’m going to sweat for 60 minutes. See you on the other side!

Well, thanks for the thought anyways - I’m sure someone will be glad to get their hands on them on eBay!

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who finds the current styles difficult. I also feel like I don’t want to spend a ton of money because I’m still trying to lose and hopefully soon these clothes won’t fit me any more.

At least tops aren’t so bad, just pants.

Yeah, I’m really glad shirts are getting longer again. It means that I can wear some jeans and just pull the top in with a belt and cover the whole debacle with a long t-shirt or two. When the shirts were short and the pants started about at the pelvic bone, I just wore hippie clothes for a few years. Really, NO ONE wants to see the muffin top these hips are capable of!

One thing that really helped me was having one day of the week that was entirely guilt free. On that day, I got to eat whatever I liked–within reason, of course. No Thanksgiving dinner in August, but I could have hamburgers and a few beers and not feel bad about it. At first, I inevitably overdid it on my guilt-free day, but after a while I got used to the way I was eating the rest of the week and my day off got less and less extravagant. I think it helped me a lot more than just trying to quit certain food habits cold turkey, since it gave me a chance to wean myself off of what I’d come to depend on. And it made the whole thing seem more like a lifestyle than a diet, which makes it easier to maintain, IMHO.

Yeah - I know what you mean. Long tops are the best thing since sliced bread as far as I’m concerned. I bought some long tank tope made of that thin jersey material, and they are great to layer with some of the shorter shirts I have. That way I’m not always pulling my shirt down self conciously. I see enough muffin tops to know that I don’t want to be one!

I leave for business Tuesday, which means 4 days missed working out this week. :frowning:

Well I’ll have to try to behave on the calories at least.

Is there anything you can do while you’re away? Jog in place in your hotel room or something?

I’m certain I’ve mentioned it before, but here it is again: I have bought only new underwear, bras, workout clothes, and maternity clothes in the past four years. Why spend money on brand new (although lots of the stuff I’ve got at ebay and thrift have still had tags) when you’re going to be a different size in a month? Ebay! Thrift!

Just a suggestion, but do you have a laptop with a DVD player in it?

This spring I traveled 100% of the time, so I folded up a yoga mat, packed my aerobic shoes, and took two DVDs with me.

The advantage of working out in my hotel room was that the floors are solid so I never worried about anyone hearing me bouncing around. And it really paid off, I didn’t gain while I traveled, which had been a concern of mine.

It is the kind of business that requires all-day meetings and entertaining of clients after. Usually I’m so beat that I fall into bed. Maybe if I get up early enough I will find time before meetings to do something.

Yeah I had to work out in the AM. Forget evenings, I was way too tired at that point.

Good luck either way

Good Monday Morning,

My goal for this upcoming week is to increase my water consumption. I have seriously been lacking in this category and I know it.

I know that water isn’t the cure-all but it does help me feel “fuller” and I like being well hydrated.
It’s time for my early workout at the gym— I don’t know how I’m going to keep this up when the cold weather comes, ack! I like my bed too much.

Happy Monday everyone!

My goal this week is to track everything…every drop and every crumb that enters my digestive system.

and

eat more veggies. I was doing pretty well getting my 4 servings a day for a while but I’ve seriously slacked off.

Today I weigh 174 but my 7 day average is 173.9

Meyer6 I’m like you, all thighs and ass and a relatively slim waist. I finally stopped buying jeans becuase, IMO, they’re the worst when it comes to the fit problem you describe. Here’s what I’ve had lots of luck with:

Liz Claiborne and Dillards Westbound. Cotton slacks, slightly stretchy, sit just below the waist (but not low rise) straight leg. Flattering, comfortable and fairly affordable if you figure in cost per wearing (I have 2 pair of each in various colors and I live in them). The Liz Claiborne I got on sale at the Liz Claiborne outlet.

Good luck.

Two goals for the week:

  1. Buy better food. I’ve been slacking off a bit as of late, so I really need to get back to lean protein, whole grains, and lots of veggies.

  2. Do a mid-week strength training. Weekends-only is just not enough.

Okay, I was much better ('though not perfect) with my tracking last week, so I’m still going to list that as a goal: keep tracking! And I’m going to add: Get at least 3 servings of vegetables daily. I’ve been reaching for the convenience foods a little too frequently lately and staying in my points by eating too little of high calorie foods instead of lots of low calorie foods, so I’m going to try and avert that through increased vegetable consumption.

One thing I started doing about a week and a half ago which has really helped: I’m eating a can of soup in the morning instead of my cereal and milk. Canned soup, so it’s easy, and something with noodles or potatoes, so I’m getting filling starchiness. It’s satisfying me more than the cereal and milk, and I’m staying full feeling longer. Plus a whole can (of the non condensed kind) is only 3 or 4 points if I choose them carefully - about the same as cereal and milk. It’s more expensive, of course, so I have to budget it in, but so far it’s been worth it. Lucky for me, I don’t have sodium problems!

Question: What does a WW “point” translate to in calories, fat grams, or whatever?

Might the thread be accepting new members?

We went to a restaurant over the weekend to celebrate finally having broken the 12 stone mark. It was one of those high quality/small portions/expensive kind of places. but the portion sizes were ridiculous even by their normal standards. What with the miniscule steak and small portion of potatoes I figure I probably still kept to the diet!

Last time I go there if I have my say. (That’s a big IF of course.)

Nope. We’re full up.

Welcome, and happy losing!
