Sealab 2021

The latest Archer episode got me to download episode 1 of Sealab 2021 last night at around 9:30.

I enjoyed it so much that I bought the season, staying up all night to watch the next 7 episodes (that was like 88 minutes of watching!). Ahem

I remember hearing about it back when it was on, but sadly never saw an episode. Man, it is hilarious! Also, the length of each episode (11 minutes) seems perfect to keep the laughs going without any filler.

As a young kid (born in '75), how likely would I have been to have seen the original Sealab 2020? Was it pretty common on Saturday mornings (or probably Sunday mornings when all the HB crap aired as filler)? I swear it seems far too familiar in my mind.

So here is the Sealab 2021 thread. I searched and was surprised I didn’t see one. So far my favorite episode has been Lost in Time. I literally had a laughing fit.

I know I saw the original Sealab 2020 when I was a kid, sometime in the late 70s. But then New Zealand TV tended to be a few years behind most other places during that era. It was a bland, poorly animated show with no redeeming qualities, hence why it’s perfect for spoofing.

I think you described 98% of Hanna-Barbera’s catalogue.

Oh yeah. Scooby Doo is generally pretty good, as far as it goes, but there were about five almost exact clones of the show subsequently produced, including: Josie and the Pussycats; Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids; Speed Buggy; Goober and the Ghost Chasers; and Captain Caveman. And each one was worse than the last.

And Sealab 2020 fits in with that lot of cheap knockoffs of what had been relatively successful for them at one point, namely Jonny Quest.

It’s really hard to say these things for sure, but Sealab 2021 has to be one of the absolute finest things that Adult Swim ever did. I haven’t seen an episode in years but I could definitely go back and watch them all again and again. Lovely, perfect show.

Favorite quote: “Tell it to queen dopplepopolis!”

I loved the Alvis episode.

“Now drink with me deeply of the bourbon, scotch, and rye until such time as we are fighting drunk. Then we shall find, and beat the asses of, the nonbelievers who ruined my feast.”

Bizarro, I’m helping!

I watched Sealab 2020 in it’s original run. I always loved ships and subs so for me the cartoon was a must see.
