Dave Duchovny wasn’t hosting, he was playing Jeff Goldblum as a contestant.
I remember one where someone was playing Calista Flockhart who was too tired to write anything for Final Jeopardy!
These are my favorite skits on SNL in the last X years. I also loved that one that I think involved Nicholas Cage where he was a husband trying with his wife to think of a name for their child. Husband keeps rejecting names as being too easy to make fun of. At the end of the skit, a mailman delivers a package to “Mr. Ass wipe” Husband says, thats “Ahhs wee pay”. Does anyone know if the text of this skit is on the web somewhere?
Norm Mcdonalds impression of Burt Reynolds cracks me up, I must say.
But another venue that was absolutely hilarious was Star Wars try outs. Norm Mcdonald as Burt Reynolds as Darth Vader; he can’t get into character and asks “What kinda car does this guy drive.”
Not to hijack this TOO far off topic, but I loved the Nicholas Cage / “Asswipe” one!
Mom: "How about something simple, like ‘Ben’?
Nicholas Cage: "Oh, yeah, Ben, Benjamin Harrison; ‘Hey Ben, is MONTANA A STATE YET?’
And does anyone remember the SCTV skit for a game show called “High-Q”? It’s been a few years, but I remember that one as pretty hilarious. Some hazily remembered lines (correct me if I’m wrong):
“Love to love you baby?”
“But that’s what I SAID”
Trebek: “months beginning with ‘Feb’”
Connery: “Feb-TOBER!”
Six, as near as I can figure. I haven’t heard the Jerry Lewis one, but I’ll take curwin’s word for it.
The other five:
Connery, Calista Flockhart, Nicholas Cage
Connery, Keanu Reeves, Hillary Swank
Connery, Minnie Driver, Jeff Goldblum
Connery, Turd Ferguson, French Stuart
Connery, Tom Cruise, Adam Sandler
Mucho thanks go out to cykrider for pointing out that these are available on Napster. I’d have never thought to look there. Damn, these clips have me in tears laughing!
HA-HA!!!
O.K. I have found those five in either .avi, .ram or .mov
If you have CuteMX, you can get them there.
punk snot dead,
broccoli!
This OP was a good idea…I’m kinda curious myself. Is there really some life-based truth to the hilarity portrayed in these skits? I love the Celebrity Jeopardy skits! The only one I’ve actually seen is the one where “Burt Reynolds” is wearing the big cowboy hat. But I’ve heard all the skits from Napster.
AT: Keanu Reeves, you look rather pleased. Let’s see what you wrote down… Nothing. The question was write anything, and you got it wrong. I’m speechless. Let’s see what you wagered. Eleventy-billion dollars. That’s not even a real number.
KR: Yet.
AT: Simply amazing…
Stiller’s Tom Cruise was great. “Help me help you. Help me help you.”
The Calista Flockhart was where she couldn’t participate in final jeopardy because the pen was ‘too heavy’.
In terms of the guests’ general dumbness, you betcha. The celebrities who compete on Jeopardy! are… well, not up to usual Jeopardy! standards. The questions are significantly dumbed down and they STILL do horribly. Regular Jeopardy! guests are usually pretty smart, but the celebrities are generally brutal.
A few years ago, General H. Norman Schwartzkopf was a guest on Celebrity Jeopardy! and I think he won about fifty zillion dollars. Okay, it was more like $25,000. Still, it illustrated what would happen if you put a legitimately smart and educated man up against a couple of sitcom stars. Oh, it was ugly; I think Stormin’ Norman answered about 55 out of 60 questions.
TREBEK (Will Ferrell): Let’s see what Mr. Keaton came up with. You wrote… “Val Kilmer Sucks!”
KEATON (Matthew Perry): I’m Batman!
TREBEK: Okay, and your wager… “George Clooney Sucks.”
