Search within a thread?

Is there an easy, non ham§ster flogging way to do so?

Case in point: The December Banning thread.

I clicked on the replies and saw that an Admin had posted. Quite correctly (I finally find), I reasoned that the Admin either gave a reason or told everyone not to ask.

I wanted to read only that post. So, other than doing a search under the Admn’s name, the subject name, and limiting it to The Pit, and asking for results to be shown as posts (which tires the little fur bags, or so I’ve heard), I would have been forced to scan through a virtual poo flinging free for all just to find the one post that I wanted to see. The 2nd (scan method) is what I used, since it seems to be Board Prime Time right now, and I didn’t want to add to board strain more than I had to…

The search function under a posted comment says “Find more posts by So And So” which wouldn’t seem to help find a different poster’s comments in that same thread.

(To everyone in that thread, I have nothing against most of the opinions posted. I just didn’t want to read them for the 19,000th time, even at a glance. Please don’t use this thread to continue any political arguments for either side.)

So, is there an easier way to find the ONE POST that I wanted to see? Does a search really affect the resources of this board so much more than reading a thread?

Note to Mods: Once answered, please close at your discretion. I don’t to jam up ATMB. Thanks.

You can use the ‘find’ function in Internet Explorer to find a word or phrase on the current page; not a terribly effective method when the thread runs to 19 pages, but probably the best you’re going to get.

I hadn’t though of that! Here I was looking for a board only solution. Thanks.

NCB, try this:

  1. Open thread.

  2. Click on “Show Printable Version” at bottom of the page.

  3. At the upper right, click on "Show all XXX posts of this thread on one page. (Where XXX is the number of posts in the entire thread, not all posts with adult content.)

  4. When the entire thread is on the page in “bare bones” format, hit control-F in Internet Explorer and enter the search term you would have used on the search screen in the first place.

(To be honest, I have no knowledge of vB, so I haven’t the foggiest idea whether produces more strain on the server, so caveat poster.)

Danthman and mangetout, that worked perfectly.
I typed in dex’s name and went right to his post.
Been online in one way or another for almost 10 years now, and that method never crossed my mind.

I consier this Q answered. Thanks again.
