Say you reply to a post in a thread and then come back the next day. You find that the thread is now 6 or 7 pages long and what you want to do is continue reading it from the point of your last post. Is there a way to do that? I’ve just spent ages searching through a multi-page thread for a post of mine and it’s no fun at all.
Control-F (or Command-F on a Mac), and search for your own name. You still have to be on the right page, but your browser can help with that, too, if your settings show followed links in a different color from un-followed ones: Your last post is probably on the highest-numbered page for which the link is followed.
Click on your name->Statistics->Find all posts by aldiboronti
The same thing, but using Google->site:boards.straightdope.com “aldiboronti”

When you are on a form page, next to the each thread is link called “Replies”. If you click that, you’ll see all the usernames of those who posted, organized by number of posts. If you find your name and click to the number, it will take you to your post.
-
In your user profile, under statistics, you can click Find All Posts By This User. Depending how often you post, that can help.
-
If you find any post of yours, click on your username and a drop down menu appears. One choice is Find All Posts By (This User)
#1 by ITD is what is recommend.
ITD’s #1 method is best if you only care about finding your most recent post.
This works well unless a lot of people have been quoting you.
My strategy, developed during Mafia games, is to do a ctrl+f based on the join date of the poster you’re looking for. Nine times in 10, this is unique for each poster in a given thread.
If you find yourself often participating in threads that get long, don’t forget that you can ratchet up the posts/page number.
Yes. Since I discovered that feature I’ve found it to be very useful. Not just for finding your own post, but if you’re looking for someone else’s!
When you click the number next to the poster name in the “who posted” dialogue box it will display search results for all posts in the thread by that user, not just the most recent.
Not so. All your posts in that thread will appear.
Yeah, in the order you posted them. The most recent one will be at the top.
Right. So you can easily scan them to find any post you want.
Right. I have no idea what we’re disagreeing about.
That the method I suggested is best if you only care about finding your most recent post
Sounded like you were saying it only showed your recent post (which isn’t true).
It’s useful to find any post, not just your most recent one.
Ah, no. I said that’s the best method IF you only care about seeing your most recent post (which is what the OP wanted). Other methods mentioned in this thread would be better if you’re trying to do other things.
Gotcha- I see where you’re coming from.
12 fucking years and I only learn this now! :smack:
[MiB]Just imagine what you’ll learn [sic] tomorrow.[/MiB]
THANK YOU! That makes going back through 30 page threads a lot easier.
What’s a “form page”?
Forum page, like IMHO or ATMB.
