Searching for the non-cookied?

I understand that in order to save server load the search was recently adjusted to require that one be a registered member to use it. Well, for the first time since the change was made I tried to search.

As I have cookies disabled on my computer, every time I post I get a screen asking for my user name and password. When I tried to search, I got this screen before I went to the search page. After I filled in the search parameters, I got the same user name/password screen, and after I filled out, I went to the search page again, without the search being run.

So, if I don’t have cookies enabled, is there any way to search?

Billdo beat me to asking the question. Inquiring minds want to know (ok, we really just want to search  )

I had the same experience y’all did, and I turned on cookies and now can search. I generally prefer to surf without getting cookies, so I leave them off and just turn them on when I’m coming to visit the board.

I don’t like the thought of leaving them on when I go elsewhere. If you’re using IE and are afraid you might forget to turn 'em off when you go elsewhere, set your browser to the option that requires you to OK every cookie.

Thanks Beatle, you beat me to the punch here.

I’m sorry that we had to do this, but searches, more than anything else, really eat huge bites of system resources and have a lot to do with those all too annoying slowdowns and timeouts.
