Searching

Can we only search back to the beginning of 2006 now?

No. I can find my earliest posts by searching for my id and selecting sort by last posting date ascending. The earliest that’s still on the board is from 1999.

Just select find posts from a year ago and older. You get a max of 750 hits, so any more results than that won’t show up even if they’re within the date range you specify.

I can’t seem to search for old threads, either. When I search for threads started by me, from ‘any date’ and newer, I only get 84 threads as a result, the oldest being from 2001. The next thread? 2005. What the hell is going on?

Oh, and if I search for threads started by me from “one year ago” and older, I get exactly four results.

Something is not right here.

Same with me. I did a search on threads I started a year ago and older and found nothing.

Hm, strange. I just did a search and got threads going back several years, no problem.

Please tell me what you searched for so I can see what happens when I attempt to duplicate.

I did a search on threads started by me a year ago or older. Got nothing back.

Any word yet?

I first searched for my username (exact match,) and ‘threads started by user.’ I then selected any date and newer. I get exactly 84 results (same as before.) It’s the last 83 threads I started (going back to December of '05,) and then for a realyl bizarre reason, the 84th thread is one I started in July of '01, who’s last reply was also in July. I have started many, many threads since then, and don’t understand why they don’t show up.

When I search for threads from ‘a year ago’ and older, all I get is five results. Four of those threads were all started about a year ago, and then, for some reason, that same last thread from the first search is once again the last result.

That thread is ‘Foods that have gone away…’ and was made by me on 7-14-2001. It’s thread ID is 78096.

Have any of the administrators taken a few minutes to try the search I suggested yet?

How about now?

How about today?

The search database troubles date back to at least October:
How many threads have been deleted? (Oct 21, 2006)
Why does the SDMB search engine no longer work on threads before a certain date? (Nov 14, 2006)

As far as I can tell, no one’s really looked into the problem.

That’s why I’ve been bumping this thread everyday, and will continue to do so until someone gives this issue some serious consideration.

Will today be the day?

Hi, Lord Ashtar. Since no mod has responded to your request, I’ll try to respond.

I get the same results as bouv and you. I think the issue is not because of an error in the search feature, but because of the archiving of old threads. It is possible that the threads you started prior to last year have been archived. Since I do not currently have access to the archived threads, I cannot confirm this.

I will request one of the admins with more information to address your query. Please bear with us until then.

Thanks.

Is the archiving based on the identity of the OP? BrainGlutton’s, Duffer’s and Aeschines’ OP’s written before Dec 2005 are missed by searches, while those of most other posters are not.

Thank you, xash. There is clearly a problem and all I ask is that an administrator look into it and attempt to resolve it.

So…have any of the admins taken the time to look into this yet?

I searched on threads started by me, a year or older, and got stuff going back to 2004. (I haven’t started very many threads.) So I don’t see any problem. However, whatever is going on (or not going on) for some of you, it’s being looked into. It’s not the A-1 Priority, however, the A-1 Priority is waiting for the plumber to unclog my toilets. Please be patient.
