Season premiere of Glee

I remember for a while they were recording some original songs. Most were totally forgettable, but I’m sure they made a lot of money anyway as I am guessing that the show got most of the publishing rights. (I think it was Cory Monteith who said that his song royalties were relatively minor because there were so many cuts taken out by writer/publisher/network/show owners efore he and the other actors got their share.)

I’m surprised they have not toured the last few years. Their two tours were major successes financially and probably made a ton of money for the stars.

I don’t know if there was any truth to this, but I remember hearing that the cast wasn’t happy about being sent on tour so soon after shooting wrapped for the season that they had little time to rehearse (or presumably to relax) and that Lea Michelle basically had to be threatened into not backing out of the tour altogether. It is definitely true that the Glee 3D Concert Movie performed well below expectations. I don’t know if that would have hurt the odds of a future tour, though.

Several cast members have released albums and/or toured on their own since the last Glee tour, and while they probably made nowhere near as much money as they would have on a Glee tour they likely hoped this would do more to set up their post-Glee careers.

I feel bad for Jane Lynch, who’s always been better than her material on Glee, and has been rewarded with a weirdly dull and pointless episode centered on her character.

A lot of seemingly significant things happened in this episode – e.g. Dalton Academy mysteriously burns down – but they mostly happen in passing. Instead the episode spent what seemed like at least 15-20 minutes straight on an expose of Sue that revealed nothing about her that we didn’t already know. (Spoiler alert: she’s a crazy liar who hates choirs.) And what sparks all this? It wasn’t the recent kidnapping committed by Sue, and surprisingly enough she wasn’t responsible for the fire at Dalton.*

No, the straw that broke the camel’s back, turning Becky against Sue and leading to the revelation of her “Hurt Locker”, Sue’s termination from her position at McKinley, and her humiliation on national television, is that Sue tried to prevent the Warblers from being permitted to merge with New Directions. That’s it. Becky actually even says that she doesn’t know why she considers being mean to the Warblers over the line, but we’re just supposed to accept that this was where Sue finally went too far.

At the end of the episode someone finally remembers the whole Warblers+New Directions thing and they do a song in their new Warbler-esque uniforms. I mention this only because the song was written or co-written by Darren Criss, making it the first Glee original song by a cast members. I can’t say it really stuck in my head, but it was better than some of the other original songs they’ve done. Even though I’d read that Criss was going to write a song for an upcoming episode, I actually didn’t immediately realize that this was it and not a “real” current pop song I just hadn’t heard before.

*As far as we know. The cause of the fire is not revealed, but my money is still on Blaine. Something about that boy ain’t right.

Two more episodes, and I’m free from this abusive show.

I want Rachel to get a scathing social disease, and have it be on TMZ.

The Dalton song was the only highlight.

Except for “She cut off my dreadlocks”.

I still think that Becky needs to be put down and her boyfriend needs to be committed.

And wouldn’t the superintended going into Sue’s locker be an act of breaking and entering?

Ok, I don’t expect realism, but really?
Glitter bomb? No problem
Poisoning the water supply and not getting the attention of DHS, FBI, or heck the UN?
But setting a car on fire with no repercussions???

I do like the random judges they get, that is a fun aspect.

Brian

At least I’m out of this abusive relationship.

I loved 80% of this show. I teared up a few times, especially at Sue and Will’s duet. They should have just left it there, though. Having her be vice president? Ridiculous.

I liked the how-we-met phases.

I liked the reunion on the stage, and seeing all the old cast members.

The last song SHOULD have been Don’t Stop Believin’. But “I Live” was OK.

Sorry to see you go, Glee, but you just sucked more than you shone.
