Season tickets!

I am the proud owner of a Washington Nationals season ticket! I’ve never been a season ticket holder before!

My boyfriend buys 2 season tickets each year: he had a hard time finding people to go to games with him last season, and in the fall he found someone who said she might be interested in buying one of this year’s tix. Three months later, of course, he met me, who loves baseball and would happily go to many games with him. We talked about his tickets a few times, and about how he hadn’t heard any more from that woman, and after thinking about it for a few weeks I made him a proposition: if the sale to her fell through, he should sell the other ticket to me. He tried to talk me out of it (well, not really, but he did warn me about how hard it can be to juggle baseball and life, how the team is projected to lose something like 100 games this year, how early we’d have to leave to make weeknight games, etc.) but I wouldn’t be put off, and he quickly gave in. He contacted the woman and told her that he might have another offer: she said she still wasn’t sure about the ticket, and told him to let it go if someone else wanted it. So it’s mine!

I’m really excited about this. I know that the games are going to be very time-consuming, my boyfriend is aware that whenever school’s in session I won’t be able to make most (if any) of the weeknight games, etc. And even though I’m a Yankees fan I am first and foremost a baseball fan, and because I was living here when the Nats got started I feel a definite allegience to them. I don’t care if they don’t win a single game that I attend, I’ll still be at a ballpark watching a ballgame! Plus, part of me has always wanted to get either baseball or hockey season tickets. As I told my boyfriend, it’s entirely possible that by the World Series I will swear that I’ll never buy another season ticket again, but this is the perfect time for me to find out: I can afford the ticket and I have someone to go to games with.

Of course, he has warned me that if I dump him before the end of the season there are no refunds and the seats won’t change, and I’ve warned him that if he dumps me before the end of the season he has to be nice about it so that it’s not too awkward when I keep going to games. I think we’ll be just fine, though, and I also think we’ll have a lot of fun this season.

I can’t wait until opening day!

Congratulations! It’s nice to have someone to share with. Are season tickets axpensive? Do you get a reserved seat, or just guaranteed entrance?

(I find getting so excited about spectating a sport to be a little alien, but that’s just me: I’m not a spectator-sports person. Except maybe cricket, if I ever get to understand it. If you love going to a game, more power to you!)

Thanks for the congrats, even if you’re one of those non-sports people. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, the tickets are expensive: I paid more than $1000 for mine. But yes, I get a reserved seat – it’s the same seat all season. Seats for season ticket holders are often all in the same part of the stadium, so I’ll get to know the people who have season tickets for the seats around ours.

Congrats on the tickets. I’m a st. Louis Cardinal season ticket holder and your boyfriend is right about how hard it can be to juggle baseball with everything else (it gets easier when you just drop everything else  ).

Congrats! I’m on the waiting list for NY Giants season tickets. Only 16 years to go!

This is only for home games, right? Do you get anything for away games?
