That was a fun quiz. I’m a little disappointed that there were still several teams with 70+ points – I thought I’d made it a little harder – but it was also refreshing that they weren’t all the usual suspects. (Every team got 40+ points, which may be my record.)
I mean, I’m happy when you guys win, but I hate to look like I’m just forking over money to you every time.
I forgot that tomorrow, my wife will be staying at home with my daughter all day, since the two-year-old is the only one who automatically gets Veterans Day off. If I went to trivia tomorrow night, this means my wife would have pretty much one whole day solo parenting without a break – and this has been politely vetoed. Not that I blame her.
Alternate proposal:
Next week we do Mulleady’s on Monday night, since Naomi is hosting at the OP.
This week, we either do the OP and hope it’s not a slog, or go elsewhere either Tuesday or Wednesday. I’m open to suggestions.
Not a bad idea, but it would work best if people could show up a little early (by 6:30 or 7:00) instead of motoring in at 7:45, so we can get everything taken care of well before trivia starts. If we start trying to play a game right before 8:00, there’ll be all the setup chitchat, not to mention having food on the table in addition to the game. If we can eat, and get into the rhythm of the game, for at least, say, half an hour before trivia starts, we’ll be in a lot better shape, I think. I’m up for it.
I can get there by 7:30ish, and I’ll totally forgo the chitchat. May I suggest that we try to get a table away from the mic so that we don’t look horribly rude to the Host, who is already self criticising and might take it into full catatonia.
Whatever game we play, it’ll have to be as silent as possible, with little to no conversation, partly so we can do it quietly while trivia is in progress, and partly so we can continue when the rest of the bar is loud. So I’m thinking Mousetrap, Pictionary and Great Dalmuti are right out.
Kill Doctor Lucky is more or less a parody of Clue, and is similarly quiet. That is, there’s talking, but not as much as in Pictionary.
I was assuming we’d not be playing during the rounds themselves, and I think the overall noise level between rounds is manageable for this or other similar games.
As discussed last night, I say we do a game night at someone’s home (or a restaurant, I suppose) next time he hosts. The trivia itself isn’t so bad, but the commentary is really annoying! By the end of the night, I was just irritated that he kept interrupting our game with the quiz.
I got sucked into talking to him after the quiz last night, and he mentioned that the schedule’s currently full through April, and he’s not hosting any of those nights.
But I fully support your backup plan.
Notice for anyone who wasn’t there last night, next week, we’re doing the quiz at Mulleady’s in Magnolia on Monday night, mmmkay?
I moved to Seattle just a few months ago- I had no idea this was going on. I’d love to attend… but it’s going to be hard, since I live way out in Sammamish. Do they ever do any events out near the Redmond/Sammamish neck of the woods?
