Anybody else see this on Fox last night?
I had a real problem with many parts of it. When the first woman was talking to Sir Dazzly-White Brighty Teeth and son, did he ever make the internal connection that she, as someone who lost her house, is one of the people upon whom he built his golden empire?!?!? At no time did anyone ever acknowledge that this Golden God has a pretty slimy method of becoming a millionaire, and it certainly didn’t look like that was pointed out to Emo Boy, either. Now granted, it’s great that they gave money to people that were so generous to them, and I certainly don’t fault the recipients, but you know people were a lot nicer to them because of the camera crew following them around. Couldn’t they have done it a little less obviously so they could catch some reality?
The second couple was a lot more palatable - an honest income that was made from the ground up without preying on the unfortunate, and they were a hell of a lot more generous with their lesser fortune. (I’d kinda like to see Brighty-Teeth’s reaction to their donations, shown in such stark contrast).
The music was absurd, too. I think this comes from a BBC show originally - I wish I could see their version to see how we compare.
And yes, dammit, I’ll probably watch again next week.:o
Close, it was Channel 4. Sounds like it’s the same story yet again of making a decent, simple, documentary-like original programme into a hyper-reality version. (Kitchen Nightmares is the big culprit I have in mind.)
I liked the show. I like shows in which people help people. I think the father and son grew emotionally and spiritually. I can never get my mind around the resentments and jealousies that swirl around these charity shows. But then, I’ve heard some people knock the Prodigal Son and identify with his fuming brother. So maybe I’m just out of touch.
It was a show to DVR, and then view using fast forward.
Most annoying were the comments from the rich, “I never knew things were so bad…”
Holy crap…how stupid are you people?
Never watched the news? Never driven outside of your gated community?
And also, how choked up they got because they were “lying” about being rich.
Get a grip.
“Hey, we came here as part of a reality show to find deserving people…in reality, we’re loaded and want to give you a check to keep up the good work!”
Might be interesting to show what happened to the people who got the money, 6 months later.
I’ve only seen the Brit version and find it quite touching if a bit contrived.
I’m not sure watching the news conveys just how bad it is. Certainly not like living the life, even if only briefly.
