See Ed. See Ed jump the shark.

Okay, so it may never have been great entertainment, but I thought that the preview season of Ed was at least mildly entertaining and promising. Last night’s season premiere corrected my misperception.
What a pile of garbage. Did someone tell Ed to turn up the volume on his quirky little facial twitches? Has he had an off-season lobotomy? You’re just about to get in Carol’s pants, and you invite that other bitch in to play Boggle? WTF?!
Sure she’s hot, but did you forget that she’s fucking psychotic?
The doctor’s wife decide to stay at home instead of being an in-demand go-getter, and instantly becomes a helpless moron?
Toss Phil in at the end in a bit that is ultra contrived, even for him.
This new asshole principal comes in, doesn’t even know where his office is, and decides to alienate everyone he meets? Sorry, jackass. The teachers do not “work for you.”
I can’t comment too much on the second half because I had taped the show and was giving the fast forward button a good workout.
As far as I could tell, the only saving grace in the whole show was the dorky kid. I forget the character’s name. He cracks me up. But the rest of them, yech!
Thanks for freeing up my Wednesday nights.

I don’t know. I liked it. And the Phil part was hilarious, because he was bashing his own show - that aweful Candid Camera knock-off that was on NBC this summer. And I like the principal character. It’s certainly odd that his first day in the school is the first day OF school, and public humiliation is grounds for firing in schools (IMHO), but I think he’ll be a good love interest for Carol.

Hey, no sweat, Munch. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. In this case, yours just happes to be wrong, tht’s all!
Are you as surprised as I that no one else has chimed in here? I was under the impression that there were a few fans of this show on these boards last year.
Oh well. If you don’t watch it, don’t start because it sucks. And Munch’s taste is obviously all in his mouth. (JK)

My wife and I and a good friend of ours have a regular Wed. nite tradition (heh heh - nothing sexual about it, unfortunately) of Ed/West Wing that we started last year. I found Ed an amusing diversion last year, with some touching scenes and some episodes that were so-so at best. But it’s always a fun night.

I found last night’s Ed episode to fall in the so-so, but I do think the last half-hour it did get better. The kid cracks me up too. The last scene was actually kinda touching. I guess, though, that I’m starting to think that the writers are going to run out of good realistic stuff here pretty soon, and it will jump the shark then - when the characters start to become caricatures of themselves.

The kid’s name is Warren Cheswick and he’s the best part of the show, IMHO. His angst reminds me of Woody Allen in “Play It Again, Sam.” (His rotund friend is also great.)

Dinsdale, I love “Ed.” It’s fun, fresh, and something great to exercise to. That said, the rhythm of last night’s show seemed a bit off.

BTW, I still can’t decide who’s better looking–Carol or that incredible brunette. The choice is simply incredible.

Ed is such a relief!! Wow, a funny, light, optimistic show with characters I like? Everytime I admit to liking it, I feel like I lose some of my Cynical New York Street Credibilty. What the hell though, I LIKE ED. Even this week’s episode. :stuck_out_tongue:

There is no need to choose, tsunamisurfer. There is no rule that says you can’t fantasize about both.

I was a huge fan of Ed last year and had been lookin forward to the season premiere all summer, in the hopes that NBC would for one hour become the Vivid Channel and we’d see Ed get a three-way with Carol and Bonnie, preferably with Bonnie and Carol putting on the main event. Ah well.

The Warren Cheswick subplot was the best part of the premiere. The new principal’s character was either very poorly conceived or played, I haven’t decided yet. What a dork, and not in the “Dad from Alf” dork kind of way. The other way.

Ed needs to find a new love interest, and presumably one will be introduced soon, as the Ed/Carol interest has already worn thin. Maybe he should go on a week-long bender and throw a hump into her teacher sidekick a few times - THAT would make an interesting episode.

Still, I’ll continue to watch. I like the writing, Stuckeyville reminds me of home, and Ed is a likable guy - the guy my wife married instead of the guy I am now.

Oops. Forgot the rest of my post…

I also LOVED the video tape of the party. “Cheers to me!” and “Do you want to buy a GOOSE?!?” had me cracking up.

And can we just refer to Warren as Mini Ed from now on? Just curious.

I almost spit my carbonated beverage across the room when Warren was panicking about going to the slammer. Something to the effect of “some huge guy’s going to make me his bitch!”

It’s a tried and true joke of course, but Justin Long’s delivery was hilarious.

In general though, this episode falls into the so-so category too, but I liked it. Coulda used a little more Mike Burton sarchasm though :).
