Another thread somewhere gave us a link to photos of Ben Affleck as Daredevil. Click here to see Jennifer Garner as Elektra. Her costume does not resemble the comic-book version at all; it’s a skin-tight black leather outfit with DEEP cleavage and exposed midriff, tight pants, high-heeled boots, a leather choker, armbands and gauntlets with exposed fingers. At least she has the right weapon (I think it’s called a sai).
Oh, well, I got used to The X-Men wearing different clothes, I guess I can get used to this. (It helps that Ms. Garner looks very sexy in this get-up!)
I can see how the leg wraps wouldn’t have worked out in live action, but they could at least have made her costume red. I mean, she’s cute and all, but she doesn’t strike me as Elektra. This is not to say I’ve given up hope, but this strongly suggests to me the kind of fidelity to sources that brought us Dolph Lundgren’s The Punisher.
No disrespect intended, but why should it? Skin tight red spandex works fine in comic book land, but we’re talking about a live action movie, featuring a ninja-assassin. Realistically, she’s going to wear something that offers some degree of protection, not a swimsuit with a headband. Granted, the cleavage doesn’t help with the protection thing, and leather’s going to be awfully creaky for a ninja, and she’d likely break her ankle in those boots, but it’s a step in the right direction.
FlyingDragonMan … you just gave excellent reasons as to why the costume works even less than the comic book one. Good job!
Elektra can be in black, she wears it in the comics sometimes.
BUT… she needs her head wrap, and should look more stealthy than butch biker.
Elektra isn’t about being able to endure damage (which the leather indicates) she’s supposed to be so good she won’t take any damage so she can wear thinner outfits.
The X-men uniforms (from the movie) worked because the characters were so recognizable. Cyclops has his visor, Wolverine the hair, Storm’s black with white hair, etc.
Sure, she has the sais, but so does Raphael the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. There are all kinds of non-leather red outfits that would have looked a lot more like Elektra’s outfit, including an ordinary bathing suit. And the scarf thing is de rigeur. That seems like such an obvious detail that missing it suggests a blithe disreguard for Harry Knowles’ wroth.
