I’ve never smoked dope. Could it have made him fixate on the NHP’s flashing lights and he just drove straight into it?
Trooper is expected to return to duty shortly. Big stain is still on the highway.

Could be a case of target fixation – a person’s so focused on an upcoming hazard that he/she unconsciously steers into it instead of avoiding it. Policemen on the side of the road are at particular risk for this, that’s why you see so many videos of them getting hit by passing drivers. (And it can easily happen to sober people, too.)

The limit is 2 nanograms per milliliter in blood. I have no idea what that means as far as consumption, though that number seems tiny.
I almost joined the dead this morning. Some chick swerved across three lanes because she was going to miss her exit. She literally swerved in front of me with 6" to spare, thank Jaysus I was driving the car and not the SUV, there’s no way I could have braked enough to avoid a horrible crash.
I had to pull off at the next exit and do some deep breathing.
