Seinfeld question

Last night we watched a rerun of the Seinfeld episode “The Cadillac.” In the second part of this ep, there is one scene where Kramer is chased through Times Square, across Central Park, and escapes across rooftops. In another scene, after Morty is impeached as president of the condo association, the three Seinfeld’s stroll to the car, and Morty waves to his well-wishers.

I got the impression that both of these scenes were take-offs on a famous movie - a la the “magic loogie/JFK.” But the ep guides I have in my favorites don’t mention this. Any ideas?

I’m pretty sure the impeachment thing and its aftermath are references to Nixon.

Right, the farewell-send off scene is reminiscent of the Nixon departure. Not sure if the music in the background is from the actual movie but the reference seems obvious.

As for the chase scene, I have always figured that it is just borrowing from all of the Hitchcockian-themed chase scenes and doesn’t allude to one specific movie. I know, I know… there is the part when both Kramer and the Cable guy peer over the roof top which suggests Vertigo but I still think it is just paying respect more to the genre rather than to a specific film.

For some reason, I always equated the chase scene with The Fugitive. I’m probably way off base, though.

And, yeah, the farewell scene with Morty waving is a nod to Nixon.

Note that it is a ref. to Nixon in real life, not nec. Nixon the movie. Nixon really did stand at the helicopter door and gave the big arms up wave.
