Seinfeld: What WAS In The "PENSKE" File?

I saw the episode where George talks himself into a job, and shows up on monday. The boss is out, so the secretary give George the Penske file to work on…George spends a week screwing around, doing nothing…and his boss returns. The boss gets mad, and tells him “you are not Penske material”.
So what was Penske? Did Gorge ever find out?

You are wrong. George did not spend the week “screwing around, doing nothing.” Don’t you remember? He alphabetized the Penske File.

Didn’t Penske actually show up and look through the file? IIRC, he was impressed by it, and offered to hire George at his company, but in the episode’s running gag had to leave before he could finish his sentence. We later find out that he’s under investigation by the SEC and can’t hire anyone anyway.

I believe he also reorganized it into an accordian file set-up.

And the boss “missed a lovely little party we had for Grace.”

During which George made a toast.

At my school, we have an administrator who is always walking around, seemingly busy, yet never seems to be in charge of any specific activity. We acknowledge this by asserting that he must be working on the Penske file.

Wasn’t it rest stop supplies?

I’ve always wondered if it was an inside joke. I know that “Penske” is a moving company with a high profile in NYC (you see their trucks & vans quite often). Was this Larry David’s jab at movers who he felt screwed him?

As I recall, George is given The Penske File, but as nobody’s there to actually tell him what to do, he just sits around and re-organizes the file a bit. When Mr. Penske shows up, he’s impressed and offers George a job, but then George’s real boss, who never hired him in the first place, takes a look at the file and realizes he did no work. George then announces he’s going to work directly for Penske. “You’re not Penske material!” the boss declares, and then fires him.

But then it turns out Penske is under indictment and won’t be hiring anyone any time soon.

Secret connections to Vandelay ind were in there.

And bear in mind, he was in the smaller office.

Jerry: So if you call and ask if you have the job, you might lose the job.

George: And if I don’t call…

Jerry: You might have the job, but you’ll never know it. What kind of company is it?

George: Rest stop supply.
