Self Tanning Lotions that Really Work

Ok, being Italian, I have no reason to worry about this, 'cept that two cow-orkers are heading ‘down the shore’ this weekend to visit me and my family , and they are fair skinned and don’t look like they’ve seen the sun in a while, despite our repeated revolutions around it.

They were wondering if I knew a self tanner that would work, since I’m the office know-it-all (okay, so this is the best know-it-all they can get…I was the best available for the job).

Well, LateefreekinDah - whatya know - I would have no reason to know this because I tan and look tan most of the time!

So, anybody out there that can opine about the tanners that work (we’re talking lotions here) ? I’ve actualy offered up “Nuetrogena” brand because I remember reading about it in some “Can You Believe It?” type bit on a local news show.

Opinions please! Toss is facts about they work if you care to.

Fake Bake

I have friends who swear by it.

Mystique - should be at all the newer tanning salons. It’s a new method for self tanning. You cover your hair with a cap, cover your privates, step in the booth and put your hands up. Ten seconds later after the machine mists your entire body, not missing any spots. Whammo! you have a completely even perfect tan. Measured to what ever darkness you want.

My sister-in-law has it done all the time and she looks fabulous.

Linky Linky … And it’s Mystic Tan not mystique

I use Neitrogena’s Self Tanner Spray in Light, since I am so lily white myself a deep dark tan would look silly.

Also - please remind them that they still must MUST wear sunscreen - self tanner will not “prtect” them from the sun, since it’s just a chemical reation to your skin.

Sorry Neutrogena.

Neutrogena is the best,imo
(unless you want to go more high end, then i would suggest Clarins)

I use the extra dark deep mousse.
It really gives me a nice tan!

Like Phlosphr said Going to a salon with a trusted esthetician is ideal. It is expensive so you may have to opt out but the tan looks very natural and even. Also, the tanner is much better for your skin. Some of those chemicals are questionable.

I also use Neutrogena spray tan in Medium. No streaks, and no orangey color. Good stuff…

Heeding all advice…passing on…

I think long term the girls are thinking salon spray job…and short term they are leaning towards the Nuetrogena brand. (didn’t know they had diff shades or lotion types…mousse sounds cool)

Keep 'em coming if ya got em (opinions).

At least I look smart because I knew to ask you guys…

Roast em over an open fire with an apple in their mouth, that ought to tan em nicely. Its cheap too.

I’d like to see some documentation to back up the allegation that salon fake-tanning is in any way “better for your skin” than do-it-yourself stuff. As to “some of those chemicals are questionable” - which ones? Both salons & commercially available DIY products use the same chemical (DHA) to produce the fake tan. :dubious:

I have red hair and very fair skin. Like austin, if I showed up with the “deep, dark tan of the tropics” it would be ridiculous. What I go for is just a little brown to knock off the glowing white Casper look. I use Lancome bronzing self tanner for the face (in medium, it’s the lightest shade they have) on my body. It goes on evenly, no streaking, no orange and can be layered over a couple of days to get a truly natural (for me) look. Heck yeah, it costs more, but I’m worth even better than L’oreal, dammit!

Psst, Bugnorton - L’Oreál is owned by Lancôme!
