Semen an antidepressant

All this talk about semen, condoms, condom users, effects of semen etc. is a lot of nonsense. What makes women happy is not penises, semen, ejaculations, condoms and such. Closeness, kindness, affection, cuddling and caring are the antidepressants, not the mechanical act of sex.

That’s a fine hypothesis. Are there experiments that support or not support it in the peer reviewed literature?

Why can’t sex involve any or all five of the former? It does for me, making it as effective an anti-depressant as anything you’ve listed.

I’m typically happy when I lose semen.

Resolved: Semen is a depressant.

Welcome to the Straight Dope Message Boards, laurence, we’re glad to have you with us. When you start a thread, it’s helpful to other readers to provide a link to the column you’re discussing. There are several thousand past columns in our Archives, about 25 mention “semen”, so it saves searching time to provide the link… plus, keeps us all on the same page.

I also have the feeling (from this and your other posts) that you didn’t actually READ what Cecil had to say, you just read the title of the column. I could be wrong, of course, in which case I do apologize. But you might read the entire column before commenting?

Just some suggestions for future.
