Double-check the organization name here — the MDJC’s only two chairs have been Noah Arbit and Jessica Alexander. Levin perhaps chaired another organization?
I claimed no such thing. Go read it again.
Two former Reps as well as the leaders of two local Jewish organizations are among the signatories to the group.
My apologies. I thought that reference was listed as an attribute of Levin’s. Rather, it was listing an additional signatory — in this case, Jessica Alexander herself. Understood.
I wonder if other MDJC members are also signatories.
Yes, they certainly are doing everything they can to make “the Democratic Party moved heaven and earth to put a United States Senate seat in the hands of the Muslim Brotherhood” the main issue in 2028. Great political instincts as usual.
I was a bit ambiguous in the way I worded it, my bad on that.
Many of Stevens’ staffers, including her Director of Communications and her Chief of Staff Justin German, have resigned.
A statement, first shared by CNN, from Stevens longtime chief of staff Justin German said as of Sunday morning, “Many members of our team have resigned, including myself.”
“We are shocked and heartbroken by Congresswoman Stevens’s decision to support Mike Rogers,” German wrote.
German — who worked with Stevens for 8 years — encouraged “everyone to exercise their civic duty, vote for Abdul and Democrats up and down the ballot, and stand up for the America we all believe in.”
I’m glad you dug into the signatories a bit — I am glad to learn of Alexander’s support and the prospect that the MJDC, as an organization, is not formally in opposition to the Michigan Jews for Democracy signatories.
Boy, we haven’t had genuine MAGA propaganda on the Dope in years! A real throwback!
Texas - the dream of flipping TX purple has been going for at least 10 years and hasn’t happened.
It took 72 years of continual suffragist struggle before women got the vote. We’ll get Texas yet.
While it’s true that it’s an organization formed specifically to support El-Sayed, they do have real people including some prominent Jewish political figures.
Yes. My not so WAG is that many more of the establishment Jewish Democrats support El-Sayed over Rogers than do not. But those who do not, for whom some of El-Sayed’s statements and non-statements have crossed lines that even a MAGA with some Nazi admiring scum on his staff doesn’t cross, are not therefore “grifters”. ![]()
There were enough of them to keep the organization neutral this time. Even as I suspect all of leadership wanted to endorse.
But it is not news that a group that is basically “Jews for El-Sayed for Senate” endorses El-Sayed for Senate.
There may be a number of people who haven’t voted yet who do not like either Rogers or El-Sayed, have no love for MAGA or for the Democratic Party let alone the Progessive wing, unsure yet who they will hold their nose for, for whom this last minute ruckus will be of impact.
I suspect not many. But who knows how close this will be.
Yes, they certainly are doing everything they can to make “the Democratic Party moved heaven and earth to put a United States Senate seat in the hands of the Muslim Brotherhood” the main issue in 2028.
And who would that be referring to, since it clearly has nothing to do with Abdul El-Sayed?
I agree. It’s extremely incoherent and illogical.
But it is not news that a group that is basically “Jews for El-Sayed for Senate” endorses El-Sayed for Senate.
Absolutely, it would only be news if they didn’t.
I found one person who agrees with Stevens!
Hope Jeffries lays down some punishment too.
I’d guess he will do so as a symbolic gesture—but she has only two more months in office. (She didn’t run for re-election for her House seat.)
She’s done. Unless she did get a big pay-off for doing this Rogers endorsement, she will be working minimum wage jobs for the rest of her life.
That said:
if I lived in Michigan and this was other than Trump possibly having a Senate majority on the line? The responses and lack of responses El-Sayeed has had would make me seriously questioning if I could vote for him.
We live in the times we live in. I hope he wins. But if he loses and the Democrats get the Senate majority any way? I won’t be too upset. I very much hope he is NOT the future of the party. …
I’m here, basically. I do hope that El-Sayed wins, but I don’t see him as embodying my hopes (or such). He’s the better choice when the only alternative is Mike Rogers.
Abdul El Sayed made some very forceful statements condemning Stevens. Imagine if he could have been this decisive when distancing himself from Hasan Piker, or from this anti-Semitic ad. We probably wouldn’t be in this mess.
I think it’s pretty disturbing who he has this kind of heat for and who he doesn’t.
Not as disturbing as Rogers being the Jan 6 candidate, but still disturbing.
I think it’s pretty disturbing who he has this kind of heat for and who he doesn’t.
Some of us think MAGA is really, really bad, and helping MAGA is much, much worse than whatever nonsense grifting trolls are going on about.
She’s done. Unless she did get a big pay-off for doing this Rogers endorsement, she will be working minimum wage jobs for the rest of her life.
From her Congressional bio:
she served as Chief of Staff to the U.S. Auto Rescue Task Force, the federal initiative that helped save General Motors, Chrysler, and over 200,000 Michigan jobs during the Great Recession. She also played a key role in establishing the Office of Recovery for Automotive Communities and Workers and the White House Office of Manufacturing Policy. Following her work in the Obama Administration, she joined a manufacturing research lab focused on the future of work in the digital age.
The time at that lab:

She has chops on manufacturing policy with connections made both in and out of government. She will very likely land a decent job with some company that either prefers her political take or doesn’t care as long as she knows her manufacturing policy well. Maybe a lobbyist? Maybe run for the same Congressional seat as a Republican?
No pay off needed. Check on her in two years. Doubt she is not well employed.
No pay off needed. Check on her in two years. Doubt she is not well employed.
She will be working for the MAGA enterprise, in one form or another (Fox, Musk, MAGA think tank, etc.).
Just to be clear, you truly believe Stevens endorsed MAGA Rogers with his Nazi staffers because of her principled stance on an issue? You think someone who can endorse MAGA with Nazis is someone who is actually concerned about antisemitism?
Come on now, Rogers does not have any real actual Nazis on his staff. Some pretty far right seemingly racist staff. And this was claimed “University of Michigan student and campus coordinator for Rogers’s campaign who defended participants in a leaked Young Republicans group chat containing praise for Adolf Hitler, racial slurs, and gas-chamber jokes” Note that the student was not a member, he just defended them, and the Source is Facebook. NO reputable source or cite claims Rogers has “Nazis” working for him.
Michigan Jews for Democracy is an organization formed this year specifically to support El-Sayed. They are NOT the long established much larger nationally affiliated Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus (MDJC), aka the “Michigan Jewish Democrats” which sat this endorsement cycle out.
Posters need to read this.
Sayed is running an ad today featuring an endorsement from Tucker Carlson.
This is not true-

Tucker Carlson: I wouldn’t vote for Mike Rogers at gunpoint.
That is NOT an “endorsement”. It only says Carlson does not like Rogers. The term “endorsement” has a specific political meaning.
Pretty sure this specific claim is false.
You are right.
Technically it’s not an endorsement from Carlson, he’s just saying that he wouldn’t vote for Rogers at gunpoint.
Yep.
My not so WAG is that many more of the establishment Jewish Democrats support El-Sayed over Rogers than do not.
Sure, no doubt. Maybe they are a bit anxious/doubtful about El-Sayed- but they KNOW what Rogers is.
