Senate races 2026

The chair of the MI Democratic Party has blackballed Stevens, so it sounds like this stunt of hers isn’t going over the way she thought it would.

Hope Jeffries lays down some punishment too.

The Michigan Jewish Democratic org also fully rejects Stevens and endorsed El Sayed:

Holy crap Sen Chris Murphy suffered a stroke!

A Democrat representing Connecticut, with a Democratic Governor and a very Blue state.

I hope he’s OK, but this probably doesn’t belong in this thread either.

It is not a Senate race or likely to affect the make-up of the Senate.

Even Schumer is now denouncing Stevens.

Sure he did. It reminded me of when a my daughter told me in middle school about someone very publicly telling someone they are no longer invited to their birthday party. It was a big “fuck off”; a major public humiliation. Except it was not his party to control. He escalated the conflict. That is far from “diplomatic, publicly at least” … very very far.

Again excluded middle: appeasing her irrationality and stating that she is no longer invited to his birthday party, I mean the Unity event, were NOT the only two options.

The ads, in context of his own rhetoric history. The lack of using it as a chance to distance his position on Israel from those that are trade in antisemitic tropes. Yeah having a hard time saying that Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish state, an ad featuring Tucker Carlson, yeah.

There are single (or near enough) issue voters. Abortion. Trans rights. Being unwilling to support Israel’s right to exist crosses a line for some.

FWIW it also took me multiple corrections to stop spelling California’s governor’s name as “Newsome” Mea culpa.

Does not surprise either. Michigan Jews for Democracy is an organization formed this year specifically to support El-Sayed. They are NOT the long established much larger nationally affiliated Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus (MDJC), aka the “Michigan Jewish Democrats” which sat this endorsement cycle out. Too much division of opinion in its very liberal membership.

Just to be clear, you truly believe Stevens endorsed MAGA Rogers with his Nazi staffers because of her principled stance on an issue? You think someone who can endorse MAGA with Nazis is someone who is actually concerned about antisemitism?

Seriously?

It’s El-Sayed. He uses a hyphen.

I agree. Abstention could be a principled stand. This isn’t.

Yes. It is a position I have seen within my own extended network. Very liberal to centrist Jews very divided over this. And partners in office from the suburbs of Detroit telling me of it in their family. And I suspect she is very heavily influenced by people with that take in her circles.

Yes.

Point taken

That’s fucking nuts. Stevens is a grifter. Non grifters (or non bigots, etc.) don’t endorse MAGA candidates with Nazi staffers.

“Michigan Jews for Democracy” is a fake organization with no existence outside of the Internet, which consists entirely of an online form to endorse a letter and doesn’t even ask for a full name. It’s a list of people claiming to be “Jane F.” with no verification. Like most of these groups it’s about as Jewish as a ham sandwich and it certainly is not “the Michigan Jewish Democratic organization.”

Sayed is running an ad today featuring an endorsement from Tucker Carlson. Can’t blame this one on the Uygur-Piker coalition that totally isn’t part of his campaign double cross-finger pinky swear, it’s his own ad. Guess that “Nazis are bad” thing didn’t last. He must be REALLY mad about the missing bananas.

Pretty sure this specific claim is false.

The rest of the paragraph is laughable considering that Stevens is endorsing MAGA and Nazi staffers over some supposed principle. Whatever principle it is, it has nothing to do with fighting antisemitism.

While the MDJC does not have an organizational endorsement for US Senate, the MDJC’s chair has nevertheless taken it upon herself to publicly endorse El-Sayed.

Jessica “Decky” Alexander, chair of the Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus, also linked her support of El-Sayed to Jewish safety: “I am voting for El-Sayed because, at the end of the day, I feel that I am much safer, as a human and a Jew, in a country with a candidate who is open and honest about their views.”

Additionally and for what it’s worth: If this article quoting MDJC founder Noah Arbit is accurate, the organization was founded in March 2019,

Yes. They include former US House members Sander Levin and Andy Levin, the chair of the Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus, and the executive director of the Detroit Jews for Justice.

While it’s true that it’s an organization formed specifically to support El-Sayed, they do have real people including some prominent Jewish political figures.

Technically it’s not an endorsement from Carlson, he’s just saying that he wouldn’t vote for Rogers at gunpoint. Which, you know, is not an endorsement in the same way that the Cenk ad was not antisemitic.

One nice thing, at least based on social media responses from Chuck Schumer, the Michigan Democratic Party, and dozens of other “establishment” Democratic sources, is that Haley Stevens’ betrayal seems to be uniting the entire party behind El-Sayed (and against Stevens). Way to go Haley!
