I have a lot of respect for Dick Durbin, but have wondered where he has been in terms of Obama’s campaign (not all that visible). This (sadly) explains it all.

This may be tacky, but I find I am curious as to which congenital heart defect she had. 40 is too young for anyone to die.
Durbin is not well known outside of Illinois, and is not needed in Illinois, plus he’s running for his own reelection.
He should be better known: he’s the Assistant Majority Whip as well as on other appropriations and judiciary committees.
I can’t imagine him not being re-elected. He seems well liked throughout IL. What an awful thing to happen now for him. 
The senate site is working now. I sent him and email, expressing my condolences. This Presidential campaign is effecting me in strange ways. I’m very emotional about it all, and this death hit me in a weird way. I’ll bet Obama took some time out to meet with Durbin–or Michelle did. I hope so.
I’m so sorry to hear that. Thank you for passing on the news. I was proud to vote for him last week.
Regardless of one’s political stance, it is tragic anytime a child dies before their parent and I certainly sympathize with that family.
