I personally prefer the older “DC Metro,” but have been slowly accepting the newer appellation over the last couple of years. And yes, it is DC/Maryland/Virginia.
I do hope it is clear to all that I do not care a whit whether anyone is gay or straight or anything else, as long as they are not hurting anyone. Supporting GOP policies just seems to rankle more when it comes from people who should understand how painful they are.
He was one of Trump’s biggest supporters. There are lots of Republicans, for example, even Mitch McConnell, who didn’t fall over themselves to support Trump while not actively opposing him.
It speaks to matters of temperament. Someone like McConnell will brush it off if Trump or his supporters are dicks to him for not being sufficently fawning, as long as the greater agenda is moved forward.
I know someone who survived one of these (and had a stroke at the same time). I don’t know how much time elapsed before he was in surgery, but he’s really lucky someone found him in the locker room and even luckier it didn’t happen a few minutes earlier in the pool.
John Thune and others as well. They can support Trump and his policies without being so ridiculously over-the-top about it.

What’s wrong with “inside the Beltway”? And yes, lots of cities have beltways, but that’s the term I’ve mostly heard.
Because that would exclude everything on the outside of the Beltway, which is quite a lot these days with cities that are bisected by it or on the outside of it that have a large influence. At one point that might have been accurate, but it has not been for a long time.
The first time I heard DMV I was confused as well, thinking as someone posted above, “what does it have to do with the department of motor vehicles?”, but now I know what it is a shorthand for at least in certain contexts. I would not usually post it on a forum unless the context made it apparent.

On the Today Show this morning, a doctor was on talking about signs and symptoms of aortic dissection, which I thought was pretty pointless. Why even bother telling people? If you start noticing the symptoms, you’ll probably be dead before you can finish dialing 911.
“At the time” being the time when even a lot of Republicans thought Trump was toast, after losing the election, and January 6th and all that mess.
A weak response that was ultimately wiped out anyways when he starting kissing Trump’s ass again. You can’t even really call this a flip-flop, because he didn’t even flip, he paused briefly on one edge before just flopping back into place.
