Senor Beef and his crusade against knowledge

In fact, there’s already a Show+book thread. And Senor Beef is hardly the only one posting in the “show only” thread or asking not to mention the books’ content in the no-spoiler thread. Actually, DrDeth is the only one who has an issue with this two threads system.

I’ve read the books, and they’re in fact too big, too full of useless words (full chapters of them, even) and they did sometimes make my brain hurts. I didn’t notice they sharpened my brainpower.

Word gets around on the mean streets of Analphabet City.

Their official band is Cap’n Jazz.

I have read all the books and I am perfectly happy with the no book thread and the open spoiler thread. Granted, the ABSOLUTELY NO MENTION OF THE BOOKS WHATSOVEVER is a little over the top. However, it’s best to just have a blanket rule so as to avoid numerous petty arguments as to what constitutes a spoiler or doesn’t. And I am not a SenorBeef apologist; I don’t know him from a hole in the ground.

Also I have no idea how this issue has anything to do with ignorance or illiteracy. Claiming that people who don’t want to read GoT are illiterate or willfully ignorant is ridiculous. I love the series, but I can’t say that reading it has contributed to my store of knowledge or caused me to ponder profound philosophical questions.

Well this thread is enlightening. I’ve been participating off and on in the no-book threads for the last couple seasons, and have really enjoyed the tight moderation and shunning of any book-related discussion. It keeps most hijacks out of the thread, and avoids the incidents o idiots who somehow manage to fuck up spoiler box code when they find the need to point out how some triviality occurred differently in the books.

But something that I didn’t know is what an insufferable prick DrDeth is. I had no idea. Thanks for the head’s up!

What HazelNutCoffee said.

You just spoiled the future.

A million times this. If you consider these great literature that if you haven’t read them then you are illiterate then you are biggest retard on the planet. I’ve read all but the last two because I finally realized how many IQ points I had last from reading them.

If you don’t like a posters post then don’t read it and STFU, retard.

Actually, I never saw where anyone agreed. Senor Beef was 'the decider". There was no poll.

But I am Ok with a “no spoilers’ rule”.

“…last from reading,” Drunky Smurf? Other than that I totally agree with you.

“…first from watching tv?”

I couldn’t help but notice that Senor Beef hasn’t posted to this thread yet.

Does anyone else picture him hunched over his computer, with his fingers tracing on the monitor screen and his lips moving? We then hear his voice slowly saying:

“Do. Way … no, we. Do we riley? rally? realee? REALLY! Do we really!!! … hay? hayvee? have! Do we really have!!! to. hayvee? Have again! Do we really have to have. a speckle? speckeyeal? specieall? Dammit this is hard!!!”

It’s more like 80% of the posters who voted in the poll. I saw the poll (or some poll, it appears there might be more than one?), didn’t vote. Haven’t read the books, haven’t watched the show. I bet a shit load more than 20% of the entire membership of this board hasn’t read the book, no way 80% of the entire membership has read it.

My take on this whole affair is that folks, for some reason, like to discuss the TV show. Other folks, for some reason, like to point out (repeatedly) that the TV show isn’t exactly like the book. After a while, some of the TV show group get a belly full and declare they are so tired of being (repeatedly) reminded that the TV show isn’t exactly like the book that a new rule is proposed: Let’s pretend the book doesn’t even exist. That way, it can’t ever be brought up in a thread about a TV show. It has nothing to do with illiteracy.

Another thought:

Senor Beef is a huge fan of the Cleveland Browns.
Those three women who were found after 10 years of being kidnapped were found in Cleveland.
Senor Beef hasn’t posted in this thread.
The accused are apparently of Hispanic descent (Senor Beef? Not Mister Beef?)

Coincidence? I think not.

Then would you answer her question in post 115?

Exactly. In a poll aimed specifically at GoT fans on a board where a lot of members are fans of crappy fantasy/sci-fi lit, I’d imagine the number would be high, but there’s no reason to think it’s a reflection on the whole board, or even the subset of the board that watches the show. I watch the show mainly because there’s nothing else on, but I’d rather puke than read the books when there’s so much quality fiction out there to read (infinitely more choices than what’s available to watch on TV on Sunday nights).

Your post is all confused. I didn’t accuse him of a “crusade against ignorance “ just the opposite, I accused him of a “crusade against knowledge “. I do have a “problem” with spoilers (unless clearly stated) but I have no problem with rules against spoilers.

I don’t have a “hard on” for mentioning the books. The self-appointed Jr Mods there have a hard-on about mentioning the books.

In other words, you have everything wardsback.
The show is taken from a book, and 80% or so of the posters who watch the show have read the book(s). Why does the 20% who are seemingly incapable of reading the books get to demand that the books are not even mentioned?

Yes, I agree- “no spoilers’- that’s common courtesy.

Because her question is gibberish and I had to translate it from the gibberish. She got everything backwards.

Snort. :D:cool:

Yes, I meant to type “for” not “against”, sorry. I think the point is valid still. You misrepresented and over-exaggerated his stance. You still didn’t answer my question (that has also been asked by others) - If you are cool with “no spoilers” why do you feel the need to mention the books? Can you answer that straight and directly?
