Father’s side, direct line, goes back to 1695-1700 in America. (I can claim Mayflower descent, and my father’s mother’s side founded New Salem, and later left down hurriedly before being accused of being witches.) Before that, there’s a… little hiccup involving not being able to find the boat we came over on, because of… issues. (Hail Oliver Cromwell.) Before that, we wind up being Barons, and before that… Well, it gets complicated, but it’s a long story of being somewhere, picking the wrong or right side to support, and then being kicked out of Ireland and heading to Scotland to survive, or the other way round. At some point it becomes completely mythic, as my last name means ‘Son of Ir’, who Ireland is theoretically named after. (Golam, the Spanish Soldier myth.) Going back a little further we wind up in Babel, where my furthest (incredibly mythic) ancestor was cured by Moses when bit by a snake.

Seriously, it’s all legit till about 880, and before that… well, it’s mostly unsubstantiated.

Mother’s side came over in 1900-1905, if I recall correctly, first rabbi in Mt. Kisco, or some deal like that, (seems improbable, but hey), but Mom really doesn’t feel like cooperating. From Latvia. Last name seems german, so I’m guessing probably the Prussian influx.

As far as how they met? There’s a car sport called a ‘hillclimb’. You take your car, and drive it as far up a muddy steep hill as you can. Then it slides back down.
They both had yellow Porsche 914s and met at one that way. (Why they had the cars? Dad was a former VW/Porsche mechanic / Air Force fighter jock. Mom was a JAP. Trust me. Perfect model thereof. Dad liked the mid-engined agility, Mom had it bought for her by her doting father.)

hey that sounds not unlike a kid that lied across from me in the dorms in college freshman year. He was definitely from Mt. Kisco, always talking about crazy family history. Any chance you attended a certain mid-Atlantic University for just one year out of high school in the late 70s?

sounds dangerous for the rest of us, except by the grace of Christians, and even though they go on sometimes about how they are in a state of grace, sometimes apparently they say they are not.

Not really - it is like saying that because I have never been to Europe, I have no interest in their politics and tactics because it doesn’t affect me. Of course it does, so of course I do.

Nah. Besides, I’m from Ossining. (Nice typo, by the way.) And I went to a mid-Atlantic University for three years in the early 90s.

Hm. Late 70s… No, the rest of my dad’s side is from up in CT, and the only ones of that age would be aunts.
