Serdar Argic's cousin is a member of the SDMB

Back in the early days of the internet Serdar Argic was a bot that would hijack any usenet discussion containing certain keywords and unleash hundreds of posts denying the Armenian genocide.

Looks like the SDMB has a slightly updated version of that bot, now with a different agenda, yet spewing the same drivel. The name of this bot is FinnAgain. Whenever there is a thread about Israel, FinnAgain will jump in and attack with emotional, insulting, barely coherent and largely uncited posts anyone who makes any critisism about his beloved nation.

Eventually all rational posters will abandon the thread and only some newbie who doesn’t yet know FinnAgain will keep arguing with him. This is the latest example and I wonder why it took FinnAgain so long to participate, maybe they had problems with their internet connection at Mossad.

So, in other words, you’re not able to win an argument with him in that thread?

The comparison in the OP is ludicrous.

Finn pisses off some people because a) he’s generally strongly supportive of Israel, and b) is a real bulldog in a heated argument who posts long, detailed responses with abundant citations, and is loath to give an inch of ground to opponents (even if they just know they are right).

I don’t know where he gets the energy for these knock-down drag-outs (and it takes a lot of energy to keep up with him).

If you have your facts straight and are capable of arguing Middle East issues without resorting to tired, obnoxious stereotypes* you shouldn’t have a major problem with Finn.

*For instance, comparing opponents who are pro-Israel to Holocaust deniers, makes you look like an ass.

Able to win an argument? Hell, he wasn’t even able to post anything in that thread!

By my count, FinnAgain posted 16 times in a thread with 151 responses and plenty of other participants, and stayed pretty much on-topic. What’s your gripe? That you don’t agree with him? Big deal.

Serdar would hijack threads about Thanksgiving recipes. The thread you link to is about Israel. There is no comparison.

Well, I share Finn’s contempt for the U.N. and respect for Israel, and he’s not nearly the most jerkish person in that thread, so I dunno what the OP’s on about.

Pit thread backfire achieved.

Finn’s one of my favorite posters.

I do think he rather empathizes with Israel in one respect - Israel is said to be losing one battle away from destruction. FinnAgain seems to feel the same about losing arguments, so by G-d this ain’t gonna be the one.

Always fun to see newbies jump in front of the steamroller that is our Finn when once he gets a head of steam, thinking 'by golly, this is gonna stop him!"

Followed by squishy sounds.

Worst crucifixion of a Jew EVAR.

In subject-specific terms, the OP tried to invade and instead doubled the size of the enemy.

'E’s not the Messiah - 'e’s a very naughty boy!"

OP was owned harder than the entire Arab world in the Six-Day War.

This is a trivial nitpick, but the Armenian Genocide is not the same as the Holocaust.

As in, a jingoist who cannot bear the thought that Israel could have any imperfections at all, or that its neighbors might have anything else.

Which, when they’re actually relevant to the point anyone else is trying to make to him, is purely by coincidence.

He’s just another yahoo, not someone worth engaging.

Finn has a bad habit of calling anyone who doesn’t agree with him a Holocaust denier or anti-Semite, but frankly he seems to have been pretty reasonable in the linked thread.

Frankly, when it comes to Israel threads, sometime I feel like I’m the spotter and Finn’s the artillery.

Sure, all you people stick together.

O.K., trying to label someone who doesn’t agree with your negative remarks about Israel as a genocide denier is asinine.

Anyone? Grotesquely exaggerate much?

Sounds like a variant of the oft-heard whine “You can’t criticize Israel on this board without being called an anti-Semite!”, which is equally nonsensical (such characterization being extremely rare even in the case of vitriolic one-sided attacks on Israeli policies). There have been posters on the Dope who have been both stridently anti-Israel and obvious anti-Semitic bigots free willy and orion orion for example, as well as others who cut and pasted their arguments from white supremacist websites but are (sob) no longer with us) and it’s doubtful that the stench has completely dissipated even today.

If there’s anything dumber than saying “You can’t criticize Israel on this board without being called an anti-Semite!”, it would be alleging that no one who criticizes Israel is motivated in the slightest by bigotry.

Yes, he does grotesquely exaggerate. He called me an anti-Semite right after I read his cites and admitted he was right about something once. I thought he was kidding, until people started posting things like, “It’s just Finn. He does that sort of thing.”
