I assume I first heard of this here, but damned if I can find the thread.
This was going to be a thread asking about the supposed re-release of Serenity some time this month, but my Google-fu got a second wind and I found the information I was looking for.
Serenity is going to be screened in 40 cities as a benefit for Equality Now, apparently one of Unca Joss’ favorite charities.
As I can attest, it’s quite fun to go see the movie with a bunch of Browncoats. Guess you really can’t stop the signal.
Are there plenty of very small cinemas? The Bridge, where it’s showing here in SF, is probably one of the smallest around. I suppose they can’t expect too much of a crowd for a year-old box office flop. Though they did have to move the LA screening to a bigger venue.
Argh argh argh! I think that’s when Mr. Lissar is grading for his tai chi mastery. If I’ve got the weekend wrong, Kythereia, I’d love to go with you. I can probably bring several extra Firefly fans with me, too.
I’ve already spent over $50 on it already (three non-matinee tickets while it was in the theatre and $20 on the DVD) so another $10 wouldn’t be a problem but the closest showings to my locale are 323, 335, and 462 miles respectively and as much as I love Joss, that just is not happening.
I can’t be there, because I’ll be 800 miles away, but any Boston Dopers should know about the showing at the Coolidge Corner Theater on June 23. It’s the best venue I’ve ever seen a movie in. I travelled 200 miles to see Laurence of Arabia there around four years ago.
Yes, the Coolidge Corner is an Art Deco masterpiece in a cool neighborhood. Stop off for ice cream at the Steve’s (or is it a Herrell’s? Same guy) a few doors down.
Here in NYC, it’s at the decidedly uninspiring Cinema Village. But I only saw it on the big screen once (have the DVD of course) and the charity doesn’t look too out there, so I’ll see if I can go.
I guess this is a good time to actually watch the Firefly DVD set I bought on a friend’s recommendation a while back. I watched the first 2-parter episode, thought “Hm. That’s pretty good,” then promptly got hooked on the Lost Season 1 DVDs.
So I never saw the movie, since I figured I should watch the shows first. Now I have a deadline…
