Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

[LES Papillons Noirs (The Black Butterflies)](IMDb: : Black Butterflies Les papillons noirs (TV Mini Series 2022– ) - IMDb) on Netflix, in six parts of 45m - 1hr.

As the title suggests, a French production. Thought I would give it a go as it was something different, and glad I did. An elderly man enlists the help of a one-hit-wonder author to tell his shocking life story.

Very well acted and shot, and it genuinely caught me out with a few twists and turns. Without giving too much away, the two main characters share more in common than is first apparent. Be warned, some of it is brutal.

I’ve heard very good things about Blue Lights, I’ll have to give it a go.

I’m nearly done watching S4 of Agatha Raisin. There was a good size gap since S3 which doesnt help. But this season is really bad. Poor writing and mediocre acting. The “fun” elements are mostly missing.

Looks like a “giving up on” situation.

We’ve started watching Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.

This sounds like a Hollywood mangling of Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Beginning Place.

We finished 1883 and liked it. We are watching 1923 now, and so far, so good.

We are also watching the latest swason of Barry. Great show, but it seems to have dropped almost all the humor. It’s pretty much now a harrowing depiction of a man’s descent to rock bottom.

As did we. We’re now twiddling our thumbs waiting for the second half of the current season of Yellowstone.

Yeah, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill turned out to be very good actors. Who knew?

Even Hank isn’t getting a chuckle out of me this season.

I finally started watching Sleepy Hollow, and so far I can see what all the old hype is about! The leads are very attractive and in general it looks fun.

the first season was the best season.

We liked that series for the most part. Got a bit repetitive near the end. We recently watched the 2nd season of its successor Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries with her supposed niece and set in the 60s. Not as good as the original but I love the styles and such. OTOH, they don’t obey the laws of time all that well, e.g., the “Ms”.

The music can sometimes be quite interesting since there is an Australian view to things 60s. In one episode they used this really obscure song by the Du-ettes out of Chicago. How an album with this on it made it to Australia the year of release is an another question.

Two episodes so far. I got the first three books from the library and have started reading them.

Winchesters is done, but there is no peace.

Started White House Plumbers, Woody Harrelson as E. Howard Hunt and Justin Theroux as G. Gordon Liddy. Pretty over the top stuff, but these were some real characters in real life. If it wasn’t for her cruel mouth, I may not have recognized Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister of GOT) in the role of Hunt’s wife, sporting black hair and an American accent.

I’m not sure why, but I’m really enjoying this show. It’s not my usual, but the characters have grabbed me. Cheesy, perhaps, but fun.

It’s being discussed in another thread, but I’m really enjoying Silo on Apple TV+. Three episodes in, a post-apocalyptic mystery-box show, but one that is done, overall, VERY well.

We are watching season 4 of Barry, and it’s taken a turn for the weird. I don’t want to spoil anything since the season is still airing, but… weird.

I’m watching it as well. I noted that some folks here don’t like it as they feel it’s turned dark. Well, it’s always been dark; this season is just taking it a bit deeper. But it’s still funny, IMO.

We are waiting for the final episode of Barry to drop before watching the final 2 episodes, for sure a lot darker , but still compelling. I guess that is tonight’s viewing. Eta - ok 8 episodes so messed up thought it was 6 episodes

In the interim we blew through “queen charlotte” the bridgerton thing, it was fine and easily consumed in a couple of sessions.
For exercise I just watched episodes one of ‘Citadel’ , it’s not at all original, Richard Maddens attempt at a USA accent is bad and distracting, but things go boom , no brain cells needed , and Stanley Tucci is always watchable regardless of the ridiculousness.
We just watched 2 episodes of dead ringers. I listen to Marc Marons WTF podcast and he interviewed Rachael Weisz a short while ago, he made out as if it was mind blowing, and the opening sequence followed by the hospital sequence is quite intense. That said the rest of it is just a bit too over the top , the rich lady , the crazy games at the retreat and stereotypical ‘rich weird people’ is throwing me off a bit, the ‘swapping identities’ I can give a pass on and suspend disbelief as needed, we will keep going. I remember liking the movie with Jermemy Irons, can’t say if it stands up so well today.
