Started the new season of Dark Winds, based on the books by Tony Hillerman. Zahn McClarnon is excellent in the roll of Joe Leaphorn, Navajo police lieutenant, and the supporting cast is also great. A full embracing of Native culture and life, and a ripping good yarn, as well. (AMC+ or through Amazon)
Thanks Chefguy and kayaker! I now feel free to skip the rest of Lincoln Lawyer S2. The first episode was a slog and I’ve been avoiding going back in but was still feeling like maybe I should watch the rest of it. You two have convinced me to just let it go.
Tastes vary. But from the outset I thought the lead character was colorless and forced, and the supporting cast really didn’t help much. And hasn’t everyone moved past actors who force-whisper their lines?
You sold me with Zahn McClarnon. I’ll watch whatever he is in.
My problem was the actor wasn’t Matthew McConaughey. He crushed his role in the film and I couldn’t bring myself to watch another play the character.
I’m going to blur this as it concerns ep9 of s2 of Lincoln Lawyer.
Did we already know that Cisco’s real name was Dennis? I ask because it really cracked me up for some reason when Mickey had to use his real name during questioning in court. Not sure why, because Dennis is a pretty normal name, it just tickled me.
Back again…seems like it’s every 6-8 months for me in this thread.
I decided to give The Walking Dead one more go. I’d tried a couple of times, and threw in the towel after a few episodes because all it made me think was “Sweaty southerners yelling at each other for an hour each week? Pass.” This time I’ve made it almost to the end of season 3 and while I admire the storytelling, and the zombie gags are great, it moves like an Antonioni film. To paraphrase Kevin Murphy, I keep wanting to ask the show if it would like me to get out and help push. Not sure if I’ll keep going with it.
On the last season of NYPD Blue (on Disney+). It’s been rewarding, but man, is it a different show after season 5 or so. Loved the grittiness and grime of the first few seasons, but at a certain point it’s as if they turned the lighting up, and making the show almost entirely about Sipowicz’s redemption from “drunk whoremonger” into “best cop in the city and devoted family man” really made my admiration dip.
In anticipation of a return visit to Cardiff soon, I’m doing a rewatch of the RTD years of Nu Who and Torchwood. His era is like a favorite novel for me; I’ll go back every couple of years, marathon it, and find new things to admire and/or criticize. My mad crush on Eve Myles continues unabated.
Season 4 of Mrs Maisel was pretty stellar, but I’m pausing for a bit before finishing it off.
I ended up binging FUBAR. I liked it. I actually thought the dialog between them was good and never went to melodrama. The agents all gave each other good advice that friends would, imo. Yes, there were the scenes where they are arguing and it could give them away but I thought for a show, it was minimized. This was just my take on it. I don’t know that I would want to rewatch it but it was fun the first time.
Well, regarding melodrama in FUBAR, I wouldn’t disagree if someone wanted to describe the spy stuff that way. But that’s what you would expect in a show like this.
As the father of two grown daughters, the father-daughter stuff resonates with me, and I think it’s written with a fair amount of understanding. As much as you know and try to accept that your little girl has to grow up and become her own person and live her own life, and you sincerely want that for her, it’s a difficult thing to experience.
Fisk on Netflix, which as I typed I heard the rhyme. Very funny down under law firm show, probate and wills.
inside man. whoa, was that dark; there were moments of very dark humour.
murder is very complicated, so much admin.
Narcos Mexico I binged the first two seasons and will be watching the third.
I’m in the process of watching Fisk. I really like it.
Started it last night and had some laugh-out-loud moments in the first two eps. I have the strangest urge to take up painting. . .
I’m a little more than half way through the second season. The bleeped name got the best of my curiosity and I went down a wikipedia rabbit hole that has probably spoiled a lot of the show for me.
I vaguely remember that happening… presumably Netflix’s lawyers got nervous and requested the bleep? I can’t remember the context.
I’m pretty sure that’s it. But after identifying the guy, I kept following links until I knew where all the characters are today. So for anyone still watching: Don’t do that!
I did that wit the original Narcos. I was curious about something Pablo Escobar said and looked online. Spoiled the last season for myself.
water based works best!
an extremely cute dog always makes any series better.
I’m working my way through The Wild Wild West. Loved it when I was a kid. Wow! it sure has problems, but you can tell everyone loved working on that show and that forgives a lot in my book. Besides, it’s fun to watch my wife shake her head at the show. And at me for watching it. Dr. Loveless rules!
