Oh, and to add tho that. When the Sheriff originally showed up to get blonde dude, he had three cars and like five cops. So, then he takes off later with only one car and just himself? Unlikely and again, bad writing
On top of which, what cop car doesn’t have a prisoner cage? And why do they always cuff these guys in front, instead of behind? Plot device, I guess.
(About Dark Winds)
Also, they might as well have had a flashing neon sign pointing to the pen that says “he’s gonna steal this and escape with it”. They were not subtle.
We watched and enjoyed “One Piece” on Netflix. We knew nothing of the manga origins of the story so our reactions were based only on the series. It was nice to find a short-run series that isn’t the same old police procedural looking for a serial killer/rapist trope. Well-acted by all involved. The characters were developed nicely with episodes explaining their backstories. Visually, it was dazzling. Looking forward to a second season, whenever that may be.
Freak Brothers. The wife found this on Tubi. She was somewhat familiar with the comics, and I slightly so, having seen enough of them to have a basic idea of who the characters were and what it was all about (but I’ve never really been a big comics reader in general).
It’s silly, mindless fluff, and there’s most definitely a place in the world for that kind of thing. But when your premise is that sixties-era San Francisco potheads get Rip Van Winkled and wake up fifty years later, you’re leaving a lot of potential on the table if you rarely venture beyond jokes about weed, dicks, and the fat guy’s butt.
I loved the comic, but the show kept going for the gross. I had to stop.
I can see that. I wouldn’t be surprised if I were somehow to learn that a year from now, the only thing about it I’ll remember is pot plants growing out of Freddy’s butthole. (Blurred not as a spoiler, but just for the “yuck” factor.)
Yeah, I commented on that at the time we were watching it.
Finally returned to season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and I’ve gotta say it’s in top form. They’ve really got a great crew. That episode with Spock, “Charades,” made my husband tear up and then kind of stare at me at the end. I don’t know how I feel about the ending of that episode, but I’m continually impressed by Ethan Peck’s superb acting.
Regarding a previous episode, he commented, “It’s so cheesy… but also inspiring?” I mean that’s how you know you’re watching a good Trek. Philosophical exploration combined with hamfisted idealism.
We also watched the Lower Decks episode “Twovix” which makes fun of a certain controversial episode of a certain Trek series, and I really couldn’t have asked for anything better. The mechanical salamanders.
There’s some top shelf Trek happening right now, and I’m not talking about Picard.
I wonder if Data dreams of those?
I’ve just started this and wholly agree. It’s just fun all around.
Okay, I just started this and I want to know, is that good or bad to you?
I’m finding that I like having a show to watch. Sometimes it’s in the background as I’m doing something else, sometimes it’s front and center. Right now, this one is scratching that itch.
I tried to watch SEAL Team because I like Boreanaz and got through half a season but it felt wrong. I felt like I was watching my country invade Iraq, not help it. It also felt like propaganda to show why we are needed there but it pushed me the opposite way.
So far, SWAT has tackled some good topics and I appreciate it more.
In the thread about it, someone loved episode one and thought episode two was okay. I didn’t finish Voyager, so the second one was better to me because I don’t think I missed anything. I’m probably wrong about that. I do like that they can have truly weird aliens or just aliens that aren’t our biology due to the animated format.
I started Who Is Erin Carter and drifted away from it. Not sure if I will finish it or not.
I started Doctor Who Am I on Prime and it felt like something that was made 25 years ago, not last year. The premise is the writer of the '96 Doctor Who movie is worried about facing fans due to two scenes in the movie that are criticized. Now, I didn’t mind the movie and more Doctor Who is always good. Aside over, this show was about people being themselves at cons. Yes. Good for them. What it didn’t show is a side of them that they couldn’t be themselves in everyday society and this allows them to do that. Due to that, that’s why I thought it was made 25 years ago instead of recently. I didn’t find much sympathy for the writer, so in the end, I was really confused why it was made and stopped halfway through.
Thanks for the discussion!
Good. I enjoyed all 6 seasons.
The third season of Top Boy recently dropped on Netflix. It’s a pretty tense drama about London drug dealers that I have enjoyed so far. For me, subtitles are necessary and even then the slang sometimes goes over my head.
Wagwan.
I binged season 1 over the weekend. The Jamaican patois is difficult to follow sometimes, but it is worth the extra effort.
We were thinking about taking a look at that. Thanks for the review.
Over the past week, I watched the first three series of Brassic on Hulu. It reminded me a bit of Shameless.
I watched ‘The Walking Dead’ - ‘Daryl Dixon’ last night because I adore Daryl, the reviews were pretty good, and it was actually set in France. Only six episodes, gorgeous to look at. I have poor eyesight, though and found it tedious reading sub-titles for the majority of the show.
I started Lower Decks a bit late. I’m up to episode 7, where I was more thrilled than I had any right to be by seeing an Edosian, the species of Lt. Arex from TAS. I loved me some Arex!
Speaking of starting late, I missed jumping on the Breaking Bad bandwagon when it was new, and somehow never thought to give it a shot.
Finding nothing else to watch, my wife and I decided to watch the first episode last night. We are officially hooked!
I am rather jealous of you, getting to enjoy Breaking Bad for the first time. What I will say is, it does take its time but persist and you will be rewarded. The same goes for prequel Better Call Saul, which if you enjoy BB is essential viewing.
