Finally got around to finishing Ted Lasso. It was very Ted Lasso. A nice wrap up to the series, all in all.
Yep - it’s a timpani “BOoooING” sting. Because that’s the noise breasts make, apparently.
In the ongoing exploration of reincarnation anime, next up is Mushoko Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. This one was markedly better than all the previous series I’ve watched, despite the protagonist’s sadly typical obsession with breasts and panties (which are both contextualized with regard to his previous life and rightly viewed as a perversion by the others around him). The storytelling goes rapidly from the standard “born OP, is placed in a bunch of awkward situations he has to think himself out of” into “over his head but just about managing” and on to “having to deal with a world-shattering disaster that has affected everyone he loves” quite fast. The characters actually have backstories that explain why they are how they are, and (mostly) mature as the show goes on, and it all makes far more sense than these things normally do (he says, eyeing the “Reborn as a Vending Machine” series).
Would definitely recommend as long as you can put up with the underaged pervert bit periodically.
We started Tulsa King with Sylvester Stallone - 8 stars on IMDb. My husband likes it and I’m kind of teetering. I’m having a hard time watching Stallone with his really bad face surgeries and wig. I’m too focused on his looks. Martin Starr (Freaks and Geeks) is my favorite on the show. I’m surprised it has such a high rating. We’re only 2 episodes in, so I’ll give it a bit more time.
Have started the new season of Billions. It’s picked up somewhat from the dire last two seasons but the writers are still way too fond of exchanges along the line of “This is like [sporting event only hardcore fans will remember].” “Yes, and also [esoteric rock n roll reference]”.
We get it - you like sports and rock music. Get out of your own ass.
Heh. And everyone else immediately gets all the obscure references and are able to add to the metaphor. I was just noticing that an episode or two ago.
Character A: “We’re not licked yet; remember the 1978 NFC Championship game!”
Character B, without missing a beat: “Yes, but when Magillacuddy fumbled at the 6 yard line, there were still 11 seconds left, allowing Jones to complete the 62-yard pass to Michaels and set up the 48-yard Jenkins field goal.”
Character C, also without missing a beat: “Which wouldn’t have happened if line judge Terry Admunsen had called the Walters hold on Thompson!”
(Not the exact exchange, of course, but you get the idea.) The normal response would be, “Why? What happened in the 1978 NFC Championship game?”
Started Invasion is a pretty good scy-fy romp, but it’s so darkly lit that its sometime difficult to tell what’s going on. I understand why they did it, to keep the monsters hidden as long as possible so as to spend less on CGI, but it is kind of annoying.
We finished the first season of The Diplomat. It was pretty good, especially if you like diplomats, I guess. Not very political, the politicians don’t seem to be from any particular party, etc. This might be a fun watch now, as it deals with Middle East intrigue.
We are watching the first season of Party Down, a comedy from 2009 that has been resurrected with a new season on streaming. It’s got a star studded cast that became the who’s who of TV comedy in the next decade (Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Martin Starr (Guilfoyle from Silicon Valley), Ken Marino, Ken Jeong, Lizzy Caplan… There are two seasons from 2009-2010, then a third season this year. We find it really funny, although one or two characters are a bit creepy.
We also watched season 1 of Special Ops: Lioness with Zoey Saldana in the lead role. We watched it because it’s another Taylor Sheridan show (“Yellowstone”, “1923”, etc). It’s pretty good, but not as much action as you’d think. It’s more about the oives of the people involved. But it’s worth watching.
Where do you watch Party Down? I added the first season to my list on Hulu a while ago, but didn’t get around to watching it, and now it just says “This content isn’t available to watch on Hulu right now, or may require add-ons to watch.”
It was fun for us to watch, since we were State Department employees at one time. A lot of what they depicted was very wrong, but a layman wouldn’t know that, most likely. Entertaining, at least.
Here in Canada we have ‘Crave’, which mixes together content that would be on several US streaming services like Starz, HBO, etc. That’s where we’re watching ‘Party Down’.
Ah, I forgot you weren’t in the US. And it’s only available on Starz here now. Meh, I’d kind of like to watch it, but not enough to subscribe to another streaming service. I’ve got enough of a backlog on the services I already subscribe to.
Binged the first six episodes of Ganglands, a crime series set in France. Enjoying it and look forward to further seasons. It is on Netflix. I think there are 3 seasons.
Sounds interesting, but it’s on NBC, which I don’t think I can easily watch on my iPad. (Our remote control got destroyed and I can’t figure out how to work the tv without it)
