Welcome, @inconspicuous!
My wife is a fan of the original Gossip Girl. I didn’t know there was a reboot. I’ll have to ask if she knows about it. What did you think of it in comparison?
I couldn’t get into Silent Witness. Too many dumb things done by annoying people.
We just finished a series on Acorn called The Chase. Hmmm, we thought, (another) series set in a family veterinary clinic in Yorkshire. Nice family drama with animals. Dang. Way way over the top family drama with people dying, being almost killed, fraud, psychotic lovers, people making the stupidest decisions. Man. We finally just watched the final episode of season two skipping over the previous five episodes to see how it ended (they only made two seasons). Holy hell. They must have cancelled it, because there were a number of loose threads left dangling. Not recommended.
Fisk is back! Fisk is back!
This is going to be a very good binge day.
Episode one was sublime.
Thanks for the Bodies" recommendation. It was a fast and fun binge.
Yay! Looks like we’re done with Silent Witness, as the latest episode is dealing with demonic possession.
I watched the first episode of The Artful Dodger on Hulu yesterday and plan to watch more today. It’s an Australian series that’s a sequel to Oliver Twist. The idea is that Jack Dawkins from the Dickens novel, has relocated to Australia where he works as a surgeon. (He was also a surgeon in the Royal Navy.) There are eight episodes of an hour each. And given the subject matter and that it’s set in the 1850s, I expect lots of gore.
(I also binged the two seasons of Fisk on Netflix yesterday. That was fun.)
So did I (it’s on Disney+ here) and it felt a bit like Gentleman Jack in tone and setting, though I’m pretty sure none of the same issues will rear their head.
hiya! sorry for the late reply, i actually didn’t watch the OG yet (sadly) but i’ll watch it after i finished the new one. hope your wife enjoys the reboot
Just an update on this one: in a broad manner of speaking, she kind of does bite some of their heads off in the end. It goes very dark and very metaphysical.
Currently watching reruns of ALF and up to the one where he makes a music video. I remember how NBC advertised this episode weeks in advance as a Major Television Event…
Watching season two of Fisk. It’s an amusing show that just misses being very funny for some reason I can’t quite put my finger on.
We streamed The Last Thing He Told Me
Meh. Once I get halfway into something, I have to see to the end. But the obstinate and bitchy teen step kid bit wore thin in the 1st episode.
Now watching S5 of The Crown. Good acting all around, of course.
Mrs. Solost and I, looking for a new show to watch, found something called ‘Obliterated’ on Netflix, billed as an ‘action comedy’. We decided eh, why not, and pushed play.
Basic premise: a top-secret government team is working to save Las Vegas from bad guys blowing up the city with a suitcase nuke.
The first episode was a wild ride: lots of mega-violence, including many people getting shot in the head; plenty of partying, sex, and drug and alcohol usage; lots of mega-violence while partying and doing drugs and alcohol. Lots of violent drunken party sex while doing drugs. Watching it was sort of the equivalent of doing a long session playing Call of Duty while binging on junk food and slamming energy drinks: fun at the time, but afterward you feel a little bad and sick to your stomach.
The only actor I had ever heard of, who I barely recognized, was grizzled old bomb defusal specialist Haggerty. He looked vaguely familiar, but I had to IMBD him. When I told Mrs. Solost, who is normally gifted at recognizing actors, who it was, she was all “No WAY! Ok, I can kind of see it, but wow has he changed!!” He may have been aged up for the sake of the show because he’s only like 57, and his character is supposed to be this eccentric old hard-partying type. I will spoiler who it is in case anybody wants to watch and try to guess for themselves:
C. Thomas Howell
Yeah, we’re through part 1 of season 5. It’s done well, but it’s paced rather slowly. We’re enjoying it and will complete the series and be glad to have watched it, but I won’t miss it when it’s gone.
My bad: we’re actually watching S6. I didn’t realize they were dropping it in two installments, the bastards. And yeah, it does drag at times.
Oh, I’m talking about season 6 as well. Thr last one. Part 1 just ended, and part 2 starts Dec 14.
We watched Surface on AppleTV (free trial), and were interested in the characters and the concept in the first few episodes, then it got very slow, and then in the end they cliffhangered it and I am not sure it’s worth watching the second season, that is supposedly coming sometime in 2024.
I read the book and hated the teen character. Overall, I thought it was pretty thin.
I’m streaming Breaking Bad. I wasn’t able to watch it when it was first broadcast, so it’s all new to me. Pretty good, although I find the fundamental premise of the series to be far-fetched.
