The title is literally about a good person becoming bad. “Protagonist” does not equal “hero”.
WW is definitely not a hero. Also, to watch BCS, one really should watch BB first. You get much more out of it that way I think.
Last night, I was thinking of asking my husband, “You want to watch that weird show?”
And he turned to me and said, “Will you watch that weird show with me?”
Thus we are four episodes into Scavenger’s Reign, a fascinating tale of a bunch of survivors marooned on an alien planet. What a hell of a show. It drew me in from the start with the wonderful and horrific alien biology, but now it’s starting to reveal backstory and develop character.
It’s so hard to explain this show.
Just don’t watch it while eating.
That was what Walt told himself so he could sleep at night, but he really did it because it made him feel powerful and boosted his ego.
Just finished James May’s Our Man In India on Amazon Prime. As enjoyable as the first two series but too short at only 3 episodes.
Yeah, if he had a primary motive, it would have been, “I’ll show you!” He felt his genius was unappreciated and that he had been gravely wronged.
I enjoyed the first two as well and didn’t realize they’d released a third (probably because I haven’t logged into Prime Video in a while). I’ll have to add it to my list.
Exactly. He portrayed an aggrieved man with an ax to grind, toiling at a job he considered to be beneath him. His cancer was an excuse to act on his worst impulses. We got to be witnesses to his inevitable downfall.
I was lukewarm on Better Call Saul because I expected it to be more like Breaking Bad in terms of Saul’s character arc. Michael McKean’s character wasn’t my cup of tea either.
Frankly, I think I would have loved it if it had been Better Call Mike instead!
I finished Monarch: Legacy of Monsters today and I quite liked it.
James (apparently it’s his birthday on the 16th) has been posting some additional clips cut out from the main series on The Site Formerly Known As Twitter:
Just beginning this now. Was it good?
I liked the first two episodes, but decided it would probably be better with the momentum of a binge so I waited for the season to complete. Haven’t got around to doing the binge yet.
Watched 2 seasons of Instinct on Paramount.
My wife and mother both liked it.
But…it was bad. I mean really bad. First off, an obvious Castle rip-off. Author (and more) teams up with tough, wounded and cynical female detective. Both detectives driven by the death of a loved one. Author in both dives into said death and immediately runs afoul with detective. There is even the author giving a voice over intro as the opener. Both had episodes where singers die and they find the clues in the music of the victim, where they sang about exactly what they were going through. No.
Castle, at least, had humor.
It also rips off Perception a bit.
But Instinct was BADLY written. Awfully written. The acting seems bad but it would be really hard to do anything with the dialog they were given. Awful.
Yes, I kinda liked it too.
I never saw Castle but I did watch Instinct (I think on NBC). It reminded me of other shows in which an academic or other sort of genius pairs with a police detective to solve crimes.
I really liked the first 9 episodes, and then the finale was… well, it was an episode of TV, I’ll give it that much.
James May is great. His new series is on my watch list. Best travel host since Palin and with similar quirky humour. The ‘Bim’ robot was hysterical.
Finished:
Echo. Pretty good, all in all. In Alaqua Cox, Marvel has plucked yet another actor out of nowhere and catapulted them into international fame to good effect (see also: Iman Vellani) and the supporting cast was solid. D’Onofrio’s Kingpin is good but really the only thing dragging this series into comic book territory; he just seems to be flailing about motivewise other than “I need to be confusingly evil in order to drive the plot”. Also: “Buy the damn thing.”
The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco: A Britbox spinoff of the excellent original series. A lot of soapboxing but then it’s not as if portraying white men in power as willing to ignore the views of women and minorities smarter than them is inaccurate (particularly in the 1940s and '50s).
Samurai Jack, S1. The perfect blend of comedy, pathos and action. On to S2.
Started:
Solo Leveller. It’s only dropping one episode at a time on Crunchyroll but it’s intense and promising (and very bloody) after two eps. Here’s hoping it lives up to the good start.

Castle, at least, had humor.
I found Castle to be the most formulaic of crime shows. Here is pretty much every episode.
Body found. Post title bit with Castles family. Crime scene, First person spoken to is the one who killed them. They get a clue. They find someone. They run. They catch them. They get back to police station, and they have an excuse and a cast iron alibi. Interlude. They get another clue. Definitely those. They run. They catch them. Back in police station, they also have witness eliminating them. Eventually some unknown information appears, and they find out it was… The first person they spoke to. They run. They catch them. Post crime solve bit with the family. Titles.
Well, they snubbed Rhea Seehorn at the Emmys again, in favor of Jennifer fucking Coolidge.
