Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

Started watching Mr In between on Hulu. It’s a show about a working-class criminal enforcer/hit man type who is also divorced and taking care of his daughter and a brother/friend with a degenerative disease of some sort. MS maybe.

Anyhow, it’s entertaining enough that I’ve made it halfway into season 2. Episodes are short and easy to digest.

Anyone know where to find the Rockford Files?

I looked on Prime and Peacock. Rockford was a NBC show. Very disappointed Peacock doesn’t carry it.

I’m thinking about going old school and buying the Blu-ray with all 6 seasons for $70. That’s way cheaper than paying for a special streaming platform. I already pay for paramount+,peacock, and prime.

Is there a streaming option  Juggling 22 blu ray discs is a lot.

It should be on Roku Channel. You should be able to stream on the internet if it isn’t on your TV.

I liked that series a lot. Very low key. Loved it when the police came to his door.

I have Vizio. But, will check online.

“I don’t answer questions.”
“Why is that?”
“I don’t answer questions…”

They kinda sorta explained that in a way later that makes it not so bad.

I’ve watched the first 4 episodes of Resident Alien. I’m enjoying the mix of dark humor and the character.

The kid that runs screaming :scream: each time he bumps into the alien is hilarious.

The doctor’s first pelvic exam. Omg I almost fell off the sofa laughing. did you take a picture under there?

I’m watching on Peacock. Season 4 is moving to the USA network. I hope Peacock will carry it.

Anyway, I have three seasons to watch.

Yeah, Alan Tudyk is hilarious.

Goliath with Billy Bob Thornton

I’m really enjoying it. The series reminds me of The Firm with Tom Cruise.

Almost finished Season one. My only criticism is the extreme over reaction to a drunk lawyers lawsuit. I expected the story to build slowly and build suspense. Save the climax for later seasons.

Billy Bob is excellent. He always delivers well crafted characters. He’s so skeletal that it makes me concerned for his health. Billy Bob looked so much different in Swing Blade. That was his unique trade mark in his early films. Fans often didn’t realize they were seeing the same actor. Billy Bob could morph into the characters.

I’m impressed that even in 2015 Amazon was producing such high quality content. Thornton won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in 2017.

We watched this all recently. What did you think of the William Hurt character and Billy’s relationship with him? That stuff was weird. Did enjoy the series overall though, but it’s not at the level of, say, Better Call Saul in my opinion. One season is very much an homage to film noir. Each season has a distinct storyline but there are also things concerning Billy’s personal life that continue. There are some odd, quirky touches throughout. Oh and if you are a fan of Futurama watch out for one of the voice actors from that.

I haven’t seen enough yet to fully understand the animosity between Hurt’s character and Billy.

Hurt’s character seems psychological and unbelievably dangerous. He is a 12ft tall Goliath.
His mysterious henchman is equally dangerous.

The writing in this series is unusually good. This could have been a blockbuster A list movie.

I absolutely loved the first 3 seasons of Goliath and was eagerly awaiting the drop of Season 4.

I was really, really disappointed in the last season. It did not live up to the level of quality of the first 3, IMO. Obviously, just my opinion.

This is based on the same book as The Wire. In fact “Homicide: Life on the Street” is the name of the book on which both series are based. Some of the incidents (e.g. the phony lie detector) are present in both series. Both series seemed very good to me, but they have very different tones.

(The Wire is one of the 2 or 3 best series ever, IMHO.)

We would second that opinion regarding “Goliath.” We got two episodes in and were just left cold by the way the plot was going. The first seasons are quite good, however.

I’ll keep that in mind.

I’ve seen several recent series that started with a great premise and then had trouble resolving questions posed by the plot and conflicts between characters in the later seasons.

Manifest is an example. Great idea and they had a lot of mystery surrounding the characters and flight. But, trying to tell that entire story got very messy and fans were frustrated. The ratings dropped from 10 million viewers season 1 to 4 million season 3 (first aired). Then it moved to Netflix.

Ben Stone made decisions based upon very sketchy data, which made him look crazy, and that is one place the show went off the rails. Not to mention the idea that Noahs Ark was a real thing.

When it moved the Netflix we no longer cared.

Finished season 1 of Resident Alien.

I didn’t plan too. The ending of the last three episodes kept me watching until 2AM. I couldn’t turn it off.

Overall a very good season. Lots of interesting twists that surprised me.

My only concern is it’s getting very complicated. Each of the last 4 episodes had at least 10 or more plot points. The story is evolving from a fish out of water comedy/drama into intrigue. I can’t say more without spoilers.

I hope the later seasons don’t get too messy. I’ll keep watching and see what develops. There’s still three more seasons to watch.
.
AFAIK it hasn’t been canceled on NBC.

We’re down to two remaining Sopranos eps at long last. The final season really reeks of desperation and I’ll be glad when it’s done tonight. The wife wants to watch The Many Saints of Newark, a Sopranos prequel movie. It didn’t get the best of reviews, but hopefully it’s not total crap.

We finished a Good Girls Guide to Murder, with the roommate from Wednesday as the lead. It was cute and watchable, though I cringed at the car this supposedly middle-class kid was driving around in… A mint late 70s era Volvo 245 wagon (the show is set in present day) . Hilarious when they try to flee the scene at one point in the series. I told my wife “I’ll bet they have no trouble figuring out who that was…”
