It was rather excellent, and yes, there is a supernatural aspect to it, but hey, it’s fiction based barely on a big historical mystery. Second season is excellent and also very different (but has a historical aspect to it too).
I watched the first 15 minutes of the first episode years ago and it didn’t grab me. Maybe I’ll try it again some day; I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.
Pilot episode only, and I’m already annoyed AF.
Not only is it House-like (we make four wrong diagnoses, two of which make things worse, before we find the actual cause), but the supporting characters are annoying. Especially Shinwell. I knew I hated him, and finally I realized it was Ritchie Coster. The man was born creepy.
But the worst sin? We were promised a new approach, a show about Watson using his detective skills to solve medical mysteries. But they couldn’t even wait one episode (!) before bringing in Moriarty, who is not dead Seriously! How many episodes until Sherlock is alive and takes over the show?
That’s my feeling exactly.
On the subject of House, I’ve been watching new anime show Ameku MD, Doctor Detective, which is basically “What if Gregory House was a cute Japanese girl?”. Except that she doesn’t have a limp or (AFAIK) a drug addiction, and she doesn’t go through
but she’s insufferable, obnoxious, social inept and right about everything. And she has a sidekick doctor who trails along to observe her genius and occasionally punch people.
The first episode features a dead body with blue blood and a leg bitten off by…something highly implausible. Not bad as long as you can forgive the usual failings of the medical mystery genre.
I told my wife this so we were prepared. You were not kidding, bonkers just starts the conversation. But I appreciate fresh story telling devices and can handle a bit of strange.
I would like to see more shows that are different. Another from a couple of years ago was called You, Me and the Apocalypse. Both shows were one season only.
Watched some of Cross on Amazon Prime but only got three episodes in. I don’t think I care for it. The “genius serial killer who’s always one step ahead, oh and you know the guy!” is the most tiresome, tedious shit ever in a detective story and I consider it lazy writing. And them shoehorning in D.C. references at every possible opportunity is also pretty cringe.
Watched most of the first episode of Hand of God with Ron Perlman. It’s pretty stupid so far. I doubt I’ll finish it.
Extremely late to the party, but over the last few days I’ve started watching Supernatural, which I had never seen (except for an occasional episode while channel surfing). So far I’ve seen all but the final episode of the first season, and I’m hooked. The interaction between Dean and Sam and their father are interesting and realistic (allowing for the supernatural aspects of their activities). I know that as the series progresses they get more involved with various demonic and angelic enities, and I’m interested in seeing how that works.

You have only 306 episodes left!
But only the first 150 or so are any good.
It’s better to stop watching once you realize you’ve lost count of the times Dean has been dead

So Dean turns into Doctor Who?

So Dean turns into Doctor Who?
No, Kenny.
You bastards!

Just finished American Primeval. I thought it was very well acted and held my interest throughout. Very violent, though, if that’s not your cuppa.
Just watched the first episode. I thought it was very well made, well acted and extremely visceral. You could practically smell it.
One thing that bothered me, though-- after the traveling party is warned off by the Mormon militia, they are prepared for an ambush later, and say to put extra men on guard. I thought, well, at least they’ll get a pretty good long warning of an ambush! It’s mostly flat and treeless for miles in all directions (except for that one convenient copse of trees nearby). But they get suddenly and overwhelmingly ambushed, caught completely by surprise-- while it was still broad daylight.
+1

We watched and while I liked it, I didn’t like like it. I mainly hated most characters and I know it had some lose association with historical stuff. Makes me hate Mormons more, makes me hate dumb people even more more. Did make me like Shoshone more though, so it has that going for it.

Like you, I had only seen random episodes, so I just watched the first two. I quite liked them, and was amused to see the guy who would later be cast as Han Solo (in the 2018 movie), in a minor role as the younger brother in episode two.

Yeah, the actual event was pretty much just as bad but involved a five day siege, followed by an offer of disarmed safe passage, then further followed by a flat-out mass murder.
It ended up pretty similarly, but I can see why they wanted to compress that timeline for drama’s sake.

It cracks me up that Ted Levine (police captain) was the serial killer Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs. “It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again!”
he was also the army guy in the sci fi comedy evolution …

its funny that she is mainly known for various roles in making kids cartoons in the us …

So Dean turns into Doctor Who?
More like Rory.
Just finished S4 of What We Do In The Shadows. On to S5.
